Description
The bell on the door rang as Sophie entered the old gift shop. It was dusty and full of cheap tat in one corner was a selection of garden gnomes sat next to a load of Wiccan items. Above the shelf in scrawled handwriting a sign read:

“You break you pay”

As Sophie looked at a gnome in a pink dress she couldn’t help herself she reached out and touched the gnome which as the shelf was uneven went crashing to the floor smashing into pieces.

“Oops” Sophie said turning to the counter and reaching for her purse. But as she turned she found she could not move reaching forward she dropped her bag and found her face was pushing out her teeth and mouth felt enlarged and then her feet began to expand before she began to shrink. Her clothes began to turn to a pink dress and her now giant shoes turned black. She felt her hair grow but as it did the whole of her body felt like it was hardening fixed in this position. She caught sight of herself in the mirror on the other side of the shop and she was now an exact replica of the gnome she broke as the final changes forced her hands to the same pose and her fingers to a peace sign

The shopkeeper wandered over not event shocked by the transformation. “We don’t want yer money for breaking things” she said to the gnome as she put it on the shelf where the other had stood before Sophie broke it.

The gnome stared at itself in its pink dress and conical form it wasn’t sure if it was better to be broken or bought and spend its days in a garden somewhere.
