Chapter 1: Visions

"This morning we bring to you live coverage from downtown Ylisstol. Ylisse is in talks with the the neighboring nation of Plegia to negotiate peace treaties and to avoid possible war. The King of Ylisse will be meeting with Plegian officials while being accompanied by his daughter Emmeryn--"

You groan and reach for the remote control, quickly shutting off the television. "All news is bad news these days, especially politics. This is why I'm not a poly-sci major," you mumble to yourself, stirring your coffee with a spoon while scrolling through a webpage on your laptop.

"Robin, you haven't dressed up yet? Don't you have classes in an hour? I'm heading off to the dance studio to practice before my class," Olivia says, holding a tumbler of water while securing the strap of her sports bag on her shoulder.

"Olivia, how many times do I have to repeat myself? I told you to call me [Name], not by my nickname from elementary," you shudder. As much as you adore Olivia, you don't like the nickname that's been attached to you ever since elementary school. You look up from your laptop screen and turn your head in the direction of your childhood friend.

"And to answer your question: I have a class in 'two' hours, not 'one'. That's all," you wave her off, taking a sip of coffee from your mug. You squint your eyes, trying not to gag at how bitter the coffee is, You grab a pack of sweetener to rectify immediately. "Ugh, so bitter."

Olivia holds back a giggle and waves. "See you later, then!"

"Yeeeep, see ya," you look back at your laptop screen, taking note of the latest announcements appearing on your online newsfeed.

"What the hell...?" you're in shock and quickly grab for the remote, turning the TV back on.

"The king was assassinated! The entire nation witnessed the murder take place on live television as he was greeting the Plegian officials," the reporter says, in shock with what just happened as the camera is panning away from the scene.

"One can only hope that this does not trigger a war with Plegia, which now seems unavoidable.

Ylisse is already under scrutiny for not abolishing the monarchy for a democracy, and this will only add to the list of problems for the nation. The king is survived by his three children. His eldest daughter, Emmeryn, will assume the responsibilities as our nation's leader proceeding the king's death.

We will follow with updates on the situation as it continues to unfold. We expect Emmeryn's coronation to take place some time towards the end of the week."

A click emits from the TV when you shut it off once more, in disbelief. You hear a ding come from your computer as you receive an email announcing classes are canceled for the rest of the week in memory of the king.

Suddenly you hear a ringing sound and feel lightheaded. You're envisioning a scenario in your mind and close your eyes. You see hues of red and purple above you and notice you're taking to someone. You squint your eyes as you try to make out the face of the person in front of you, but all you see is a blur. You then take notice of purple mist surrounding you and an ache that feels surreal as your body slowly becomes translucent in the vision.

"Thank you Chrom... for everything..."

"Tell the others... my last thoughts were of them..."

"May we meet again in a better life..."

"Robin! No! Ah gods, NO!"

You quickly open your eyes and look down at yourself, rubbing your arms and breathing out a sigh of relief in the process.

"What the hell was that? It felt like it was actually happening," you part your lips, trying to make sense of the vision you had. You shake your head, hoping you're just imagining things.

"And who's Chrom? I don't remember meeting someone with that name," you whisper as you sit back, the headache you were suffering from long gone after you snapped back to reality.

Suddenly you hear yelling out in the hallway of the floor to your apartment building. You look through the peephole and see two gentlemen outside the apartment across from yours in an argument of sorts.

"You need to come home, your sister insists--"

"This is my way of coping. I need some time! Damn it, I wanted to spend my last semester of college without any trouble and my father just had to take things into his own hands instead of delegating the task to someone else," the blue haired man says in frustration, rubbing his forehead.

"Is Stahl a threat?"

"Frederick, of course he isn't. You know I've been friends with him since we were little, and you out of all people should know that! You've known him for just as long as I have. Sometimes I wish you would stop treating me like a child."

"Well sir, the option is always open to move back as well. Just... be careful," the tall stern-looking brunette says as he walks to the elevator.

Your irritation level increases with the noise level the two are projecting, knowing it may cause issues with the building's management. You open the door to your apartment, looking at your neighbor. "Is everything okay out here?"

"Sorry about that. My roommate's sleeping and I didn't want to wake him up if things escalated inside the apartment," the blue haired man rubs his neck a little, abashed by what had happened. "You know Stahl, right?"

"Yeah! So you're Stahl's new roommate?" you ask.

"Uh-huh. My name's Chrom," he holds his hand out to you.

"Oh! I'm [Name]," you reach over and firmly shake his hand, feeling a sense of familiarity as you hold it for a few seconds. Chrom suddenly feels pain emitting from his hands and quickly pulls it away, sharing the vision you had from earlier.

Beads of sweat drop from Chrom's forehead as he realizes you're the woman from the vision. He looks at you with a perplexed expression then takes notice of your uneasiness as you stumble back against the wall. Trying to regain your focus, you feel a rush of dizziness as your vision starts to blur. You lean forward and close your eyes, collapsing into Chrom's embrace.

"H-hey! [Name], hang on," Chrom tries to hold you steady, supporting you to the best of his ability as he securely wraps an arm around you.

"Sorry if this makes for a bad first impression, Chrom. I suddenly feel really sleepy..." you mutter.

"Well we both wouldn't want for you to suddenly fall asleep out here. There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know?" he says as he helps you back into your apartment.

"Mhm," you reply as you're set down onto the couch, slowly adjusting your body so it fits between the ends.

Chrom grabs a post-it note and pen, writing down his information for you. He scans around for a good location to place it on, and sees a laptop with a label of your first name on it. He places the post-it on the monitor and goes back over to check on your current state.

"You felt it too, didn't you? Déjà vu..." Chrom trails off, receiving no response from you as you're fast asleep. A gentle smile appears on your face as Chrom looks over you with hopeful eyes. He exits your apartment and re-enters his, seeing that Stahl is having a late breakfast.

"G'morning Chrom. Where were you? I heard you and Frederick yelling out in the hallway," Stahl says as he munches through his cereal. "And I'm sorry about your father. Are you doing okay?"

"Thanks, I just have to deal with it when I go back home for a bit. I'll probably head over tomorrow." Chrom pulls a chair from the kitchenette table and sits down across from Stahl, crossing his arms. "Anyway, after taking to Frederick I had to take care of things. But nevermind that; remember that weird dream I had? Like I was living in some fantasy realm of sorts and was involved with some woman?"

"Oh, I remember. Not gonna lie, I just had a similar dream. We were with a bunch of people and you were freaking out over a woman disappearing before your eyes," Stahl shrugs off, not taking his recent dream seriously.

Taking a sip of water, Chrom almost sputters it out.

"Ew, what the heck Chrom! You okay there, though?" Stahl pats down his arms with a paper towel then looks over in concern.

"Yeah it's just... I met her. I met the woman: it's apartment 4C. It's [Name]. She's the one who keeps appearing in my dreams. Before, I didn't have a clear image of who she was, but meeting [Name] confirms it. I know it's her."

"Wait, as in Apartment 4C [Name]!? Whaaaat!? Did she say anything? Did YOU say anything? I hope you didn't weird her out!" Stahl exclaims, almost jumping up from his seat in excitement.

Chrom shakes his head, trying not to worry. "She passed out not too long after we shook hands, though. [Name] was full of energy and then she suddenly started acting strange."

"It's a sign. I mean, hell... I'm having weird dreams lately, too. I gotta tell Sully--"

"--Not yet. Well, not so soon at least. I need to learn more about [Name] before I jump to any conclusions," Chrom replies, thinking of different scenarios on how to next approach you. He then gazes out the window to the rainy scene materializing in front of him, wondering if you've also dreamt of another life different from your current one.

"I believe Robin is out there... somewhere...

And I'll find her.

If it takes me the rest of my days, I'll find her..."
