Description I have always wondered what the cheapest UP-TO-DATE Main Battle Tank would be. So far that would be a common T-72 Version S. But those cost up to 1.2 Million Dollars (US) each. That's compared to 3.0 - 6.7 million, or maybe more, (US) for a modern day American M1A2 Abrams. So I decided to come up with a design of a tank at minimal cost but still feature modern day technology.
The base tank I've decided to work on is:
The Chinese Type-62

Here comes another story:

In 1958, China was in need of a lightweight tank capable of manoeuvring in bush, mountain, and river regions in Southern China. So 800 Type 62's were delivered to China's People's Liberation Army in 1963. The Type-62's design was simply a smaller, more compact version of China's Type 59 Tank (The Type 59 was a licensed copy of the Soviet T-55A Tank). Today, there are approximately 500 Type-62's still in service in the PLA.
This was a perfect base for my design due to its cheap construction value. This is what I came up with.

I designed to be just modern enough to be used in combat, yet very affordable due to the many optional equipment. A Russian model name has been added in case Russia plans to purchase this vehicle.

Estimated Price: Unknown for now, most likely above 100,000 dollars.
Estimate Weight: 24-25 tons (compared to the Type 59's 37 tons, T-72's 41 tons, and M1A2 Abrams' 70 tons)
Estimated Speed: 70-80 km/h
Estimated Cruising Range: 450+ km

Perhaps this tank will be mostly for export, being sold to third world countries.

Wow! I was just wondering if you could make a Type 62 with a 2A70 gun and a side skirt armour. When I found this I knew im not alone atleast Tank you. However I would rather see a RSW then the regular NSV(T) gun.
