Now we advance from above. It's more of a dogfight then a sea battle.

Both ships are built with two dimensional battle in mind. That means the cannons have a limited angle and the larger ships cannons can only fire outward.

Now when we attack from above, the large anti ship cannons can not reach us. Only the smaller point defense weapons, designed to counter fighter attacks, can reach inwards and have a wide angle. But they can not penetrate our hull.
Meanwhile all our forward cannons can easily hit the target and destroy the defenseless cannons in preparation for another attack.

Additionally a fighter attack would have great effect. The anti fighter guns are busy trying to deal some damage to the attacking ship. And the big guns are to slow. Of course eventually the crew would aim the smaller guns at the fighters, but by then it might be too late.
