Sobered by the threats – both direct and oblique – of the Lady, Benet the smith applies himself diligently to the task she has set him. He cannot afford to fall foul of one so powerful – and with such a hold over him – and so he focuses hard on his work, forcing himself not to think of Piers and of the bliss they had so briefly shared.
