Description
Talis was a happy camper, and for that Tank was glad. His twin had insisted he would be more help in a faster CAV, so they traded the Ogre to an arms dealer for a Starhawk VI. The gatlings sure would help in a slugging match, and the anti-personnel missles that they opted for will sure help in most fights. Their specialty, urban combat, is just what the starhawk was perfected for. It will do well for their first job of the war. But he would miss the power of the ogre. His brother wanted to get the starhawk painted ASAP, so it got loaded on The Phairy. The ship was built as an orbital base, having every kind of supply they thought needed. they had two kitchens, plenty of bunks, even a theatre. The crew had built it from scraps they found from battleships that were destroyed in the last war. As it was, she wasn't pretty, but she was destructive. The main fusilodge was from a small cargo ship, and the two secondary pods stuck down like pontoons. the dropship, a lone Hercules, sat between these.
Tank sat in the cabin he, Talis, Max, and Carmin shared. He was suposed to be trying to get some sleep. But insead he was staring at the bunk that his brother slept on, thinking of the mission they would do in a week. Their job was to fight off pirates in an abandoned ore town. The pirates were taking advantage of the war and raiding the nearby facility. All the team has to do is put the fear of god in the raiders, maybe take out the strongest of them. But it was still a lousy job. 4 million credits for clean up. But beggars can't be choosers can they.
He looked up as Carmin stirred in her bunk. She was almost another sister. She was a good wizzo, but was almost always drunk. As long as she did her job, he realy didn't care. Carmin, all five feet two inches of her, had been his wizzo back before the team got together. She still caried the tatoo of the old unit they were in. Tank had his too, but thankfully very few people knew what it meant. If talis even knew, things would change. And the team didn't need a band of bounty hunters chasing them.
He can think of that later. At the moment he had a meeting to attend. And that was enough to deal with.
Talis was painting his new machine when the time came. As he was leaving he told Butch to hurry up with the laminating on the plas-steel windows of the cabin. Thats all he needed to happen was some idiot infantry man to shatter glass all over him and Carmin. that would be great. He and his wizzo would die cause some grunt got a lucky shot. All that Butch said was her normal 'eagh' as she worked.
As he was floating down the hall, he tried to figure out who the would need for the meeting. Tac and Rayne for sure, maybe Jose, Joe, and Fred. Who knows, maybe the whole first squad should gather round. Who cared, as long as the job gets done.
