Description My first soapstone sculpture.
I made this to commemorate my first girlfriend. Who passed away when I was thirteen and still dearly miss. By taking the feeling and instilling it into this sculpt I learned to let go a little better. As it gave it a physical place to be which I could look at and remember when I choose instead of keeping it in my thoughts all the time. The stone was chosen because I wanted it to withstand the tests of time.

I made it within a week by sawing, sanding and polishing it with finer and finer abrasives until I finally used powdered pumace stone. You might notice some yellow discolouration this was unfortunately caused by a bad choice in sealant that I had to remove. So it had to be repolished again but some sealant discoloured the stone to deeply.

Material: Pink soapstone

Completed in 2007

Oh wow! That's so touching ;_; and beautiful.. I've just recently started working in 3D.. and I can't imagine how hard this much have been lol your sculpture makes it look easy. I love the emotion you poured into this.. and the description just makes it that much more touching.

Thanks, it is pretty special to me. As for the hard part, once you see the final shape in your mind it becomes much easier. Like when Michelangelo said: "You just need to free the form that's already inside, by taking away the bits you don't need". (I'm not saying I'm anything like him, but the concept really is valid)
Besides this is reasonably soft stone, which helps a lot.
Thank you so much for the appreciation!
