Description
I had a dream last night. I dreamt that Death came to me. He asked, "Why are you chasing me?"
"Why?" I responded.
"Yes, why? Do you suffer greatly?"
"That depends, what do you consider a great suffering?"
"Are you ill?"
I was puzzled, "Not physically."
"I would suppose then," Death sighed as if he knew the answer already, "not mentally either?"
"Emotionally ill, if there is such a thing."
"You've been wounded by life then?"
"Yes," I answered, "deeply."
"A girl perhaps?"
"At times, and that along with all of the other disappointments and regrets."
"Regret is not the fault of life and disappointment is just a part of it. Why is yours such that you feel you must run from it?"
"It pains me."
"Pain? What do you know of it?"
"A great deal I think."
He glared at me, "Have you been beaten?"
"No." confused, I answered.
"Starved?"
"Of course not."
"Have you experienced war, disease, death on such a scale that it seemed to fill the air around you? Have you been drowned by ignorance and hung by poverty? Have you had your innocence torn from you and cast aside as so many of the world's young have?"
"No," my voice dropped, "I have not."
"Then life has been kind with your dealings in pain."
Death turned and began to walk from me. "Wait!" My shout halted for a moment his departure, "So my pain means nothings? My scars hold no value?"
"Your pain can be mementary, let it be so. Your scars are able to heal if you'll let them." Death turned towards me one last time. "Chase life, he has much more to offer than I. My solution is hollow."
"Life is too fast for me, Im too tired to chase it."
"Life is behind you, waiting for you to turn and see it. You've simply been running the wrong way. Turn around, grab it and enjoy it as long as possible for this existence is short, and I will catch up to you soon enough."
