Description For years, I wanted to open my own Walfas training group, but I’ve been discouraged, dismayed, told not to do it, told I was “full of myself” and whatnot for wanting to help others (and I’m finally starting to see how utter bullcrap their statements are now), but I’m done placating to the naysayers.

I’m done being discouraged from posting tutorials.
I’m done being discouraged from helping others.
I’m done listening to the people I once considered “friends” tell me not to share my ideas, telling me they knew more about why I did it than I knew.

I’ve been spending the last several months overcoming everything I’ve went through on in the Walfas community, and I’m slowly working my way back into it, if just a little. It’ll still be a little while before I get back to making my own content (I’m looking at you, WotA, we’re not finished yet), but there’s always been one thing I’ve done, regardless of my output:

Training new Walfasers.

As I slowly distance myself from DeviantArt as Walfas begins evolving away from this place (which is maybe for the best: we’re leaving behind the most toxic parts of the Walfas community as we migrate elsewhere, leaving them to scream into the void), I’d like to invite anyone who still follows me to hop onto my new server, “Learn Create.swf”

“Learn Create.swf” is not part of the Walfas Station Wagon: it’s my own creation, separate from any Walfas community. There is no pressure to “git gud,” but a supportive environment for everyone to make mistakes and experiment. No snarky criticisms over the failings of newcomers (despite my history of riffing), but compassion for those who want to learn, even if they have no experience. We have no allegiance to any group: the goal is for people to post on their own platforms/groups, regardless of background.

The “Learn Create.swf” Curriculum is made of four basic pillars:
1. How to use Create.swf: Memorizing the layout, shortcut keys, character maker, and so on.
2. How to make content: How to write, tell stories, make jokes, and how to take care of yourself in the process, as well as handle criticism, both from within and without.
3. How to market content and connect with others: It’s not enough to make good content, but you also have to find a way to stand out, to “sell” your works to your target audience, as well as connect with other creators/fans.
4. Exponential growth of the community and prevention of drama/toxicity: Probably the biggest and most important lesson of all, it doesn’t matter how many talented creators a community has if they can’t thrive in a toxic environment. People need to learn to both lead themselves and work as a team, to stamp out elitism, gatekeeping, and fundamentalism, and promote openness, room for mistakes/experimentation, and progressiveness.

“Learn Create.swf” has chatrooms for each subject and skill level, plus members across all skill levels ready to help out and share ideas. My goal is to have a place any newcomer can join and instantly get all the answers they want from actual Walfasers, not just from tutorials (though, we will have peer-reviewed tutorials eventually).

But more importantly, I wanna see an explosion of content not seen since the Golden Age of Walfas.

So, if you’ve always wanted to learn how to make Walfas comics/cartoons, but have been discouraged, felt like you couldn’t do it, don’t know where to start, or you feel like the current community is too toxic to get into at the moment, have I got the place for you.

If you’re on Discord and have a decent community standing, join us today: discord.gg/tBFWtAY4wq

P.S. Yeah, I know I’m whacking a hornet’s nest by doing this, but screw it: it’s high time I finally learn to stand up for myself and follow my passions.
