Description
Fuyu, Sakura 8's protective elder brother, (finally) transferred to Genesis 8 Male.
I know it's been years since I first made Fuyu for Genesis 8 female... and considering he looked like a guy on 8F I never thought of transferring over. But lately I've been transferring morphs from my other Genesis models to 8; among them was the Freak for Michael 4. And I realized, wait a minute. These hammy hands. These masculine HAMMY HANDS...!!! On top of the fact that the breast area was always hinky, I decided it was time to make a move. The model improvements will help Akashik (www.akashikonline.com) out a lot. I like my guys and gals to look like they're from the same universe.
So I made this guy, grabbed a random toon hair and put it on him... be still my heart! I almost felt like I was looking at Rick from Macross. My childhood flooded back to me: the newfound love of Macross, the getting up early (it aired at 6 AM) to watch it before getting ready and going to school without giving my mother any grief for sleeping in. (She hated that for some strange reason.) The sorrow when it disappeared suddenly off the air with no explanation...!!!!
I know I've always shared Fuyu with the public, but this time I can't legally. So here is what I did in a nutshell.
Loaded both Genesis 8 F and M.
I favorited all Sakura morphs on Genesis 8F.
used the transfer utility to transfer morphs. To do that I unticked All settings except morphs. In morphs I turns on favorite and sub... units... the word escapes me... and made sure template was turned off. Then I went to the top area and turned on near vertices as high as it would go. I might also have used other settings, but normally I don't.
Hit go, and boom. I had Sakura on Genesis 8 Male, and it looked great.
For the eyes, I simply auto fit the eyelashes and eyebrows. I could probably have done a better job with the eyelashes, because the moisture area did a really strange thing... but I don't need that area so I'll worry about fixing it later.
The eye sockets I also autofit. They didn't look right at first, but when I turned on the hidden options and looked at the follow morph for Sakura 8 head I realized this damn annoying thing of DAZ doubling the settings had happened. I dialed that down to 50% and they fit.
The eyeballs, though. Ugh. Since yesterday I fought them. I finally gave up - I mean, those stupid things never worked right so my desire to get them working was getting lower and lower. At one point I tried telling the morph not to affect his eyeballs but that was also terrible.
So I went into my library and dug up all of the Anime Doll eyeball disks I had. (I have a lot.) If you don't know what those are, anime doll came with flat eye sockets like Sakura's and an eye disk you'd parent onto her eye joint. With AD they had some posing issues, but I've always kind of liked them because they have these zones you can change colors. You don't have to worry about making materials because the eye is just a set of zones you can edit. Love that. One of the eye sets looks very close to the eyes I'm already using in Akashik so pulling them in won't hurt the style by too much.
Once I had all of the eye disks loaded, I parented them to two nulls: one for left and one for right. Made sure they were all in line, at the same space, etc etc. Then I parented the nulls to their respective eyes, tweaked their position and shape to be oval like Sakura's eye, and did a test.
To fix the fish eye that's a problem with Sakura, you have to tweak Genesis itself. It's not a Sakura problem; it's a Genesis problem. They have limits on the eye movement, and they have limits on the joint in the head all the way down. Ya gotta go in and unlock limits on all of it. For Sakura and Fuyu once you've done that I tend to tell eyes left and right (side to side) to have a limit of -4 to 4 (not percent). It gives the eye a large range of movement very close to how I would draw if inclined to.
I may replace all of my Akashik eyes with this ADMD eyeball rig I've made; it will change the style slightly, but the movements is sooo much better than with Sakura's default eyes. I didn't even have to tweak the pose this time, although I'm sure in the future I may have to. Still. Better is better. Sometimes the old ways work.
