Thunderbirds are giant supernatural birds found in the legends of several Nations of the Aboriginal Peoples of North America, particularly in the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Legends vary from region to region, but they are generally positive figures, often acting as an intermediary between the spirit and physical worlds. They also often do battle with creatures from the sea and/or underworld (commonly Horned Serpents) that would be detrimental to humankind.

Thunderbirds are typically credited with creating thunder with their wing-flaps and lighting from their eyes. Their wingspan measures about 40-50 feet. According to the Menominee people of Northern Wisconsin, they make their home on a great mountain that floats in the western sky.
