Description
Occult Heroes: Arthurian Magic / Divine Right to Rule. This is Queen Elizabeth II, reimagined as a superheroic warrior-monarch in the vein of King Arthur. The Arthurian Legends began in pre-Christian times when magic was considered far more acceptable. As a result, the stories contain large amounts of supernatural powers and items belonging to both good and evil characters. When the tales began to become Christianized, certain adjustments were made. Merlin was now the half-human son of a demon who was baptized as an infant, giving him the ability to use his "evil" powers for good. Many of Arthur's own magical items were reimagined as God-given, cementing his right to rule. The most two famous items are the Sword in the Stone and Excalibur - the latter of them given to him by the mysterious Lady of the Lake.
In this drawing, I excluded those two weapons, but included several less-known ones from the various tales. In this version, the Queen had them recovered to be symbols of her reign. The items are:
The scabbard of Excalibur, said to make its wearer invincible in battle by making it so no wound will bleed out.
Arthur's round shield, Pridwen (or Wynebgwrthucher), which bears the image of the Virgin Mary.
Arthur's dagger, Carnwennan (Little White Hilt), which was given to him by God. Sometimes said to be able to shroud its user in shadow.
Arthur's other sword, Seure. Arthur had a third sword called Clarent that was used for non-violent purposes such as knighting. It was later used by Mordred to kill Arthur. The Queen has this item in her possession, but doesn't use it due to the taboo associated with it.
Arthur's spear, Rhongomyniad (or Ron), which never misses its mark nor fails to kill its target.
The Queen leads a modern day Knights of the Round Table, made up of British subjects with extraordinary abilities.
Artwork inspired by English artist Dave Gibbons.

Well now I have not only fallen in love with this wonderful bit of Superhero Absurdity, I also want to know who comprises the membership of this Modern Order of the Table Round! (I'll bet that Joe Bloggs is a member in good standing and very probably their counterpart to Merlin). Please sir, may I have some more?
I'll bet the local equivalent of James Bond is also kept on retainer (quite literally), for those occasions when Her Majesty is NOT being Superhuman!
