Description
Occult Heroes: Government Magic. This is Sheila Tanaka, Magic Agent.I wanted to do one that covered the conspiracy theory that various governments around the world, with the US in particular, were founded on Magick principles. You know, the supposed Black Mass performed at the Bohemian Grove, the layout of Washington DC being based on sigils, the secret societies like the Skull and Bones, etc. It's all a bit silly, but a lot of people believe it. That said, I'm a little burned out on conspiracy theories at the moment, so I decided to go in a different direction.
John Force, Magic Agent, is a Public Domain comic book character from the 60s. He was a normal spy character with an eyepach, but what set him apart was a magic medallion that gave him the ability to read minds, cast illusions, hypnotize people, and possess extra-sensory perception. He could to this by putting his finger on the corresponding column presented in the image on the medallion. The medallion was given to him in WW2 by the ghosts of Nostradamus, Merlin, Cagliostro, and Houdini (why Houdini was included I have no idea) and he used it to fight Communists, Fascists, and other enemies of American interests. He was a member of the super-secret spy organization called The American Security Group, who all had radioactive tattoos on their hands that were invisible, but lit up when they were called in. It's all propaganda, of course, but it feels quaint by today's standards.
In my take, John Force was killed in action sometime in the early 70s, and his medallion was given to a succession of agents. Sheila Tanaka is the latest to hold the mantle of the Magic Agent.
