I met her voice before I met her eyes...

"My GOD!" she said. "You've been HERE this whole time?" I didn't turn to her, but instead just nodded. "You need to get out and do stuff. You could bike downtown with me; Mom said we could go swimming, or walk the dog, or go see a movie or something. But we'd have to go now, because aunt Meg is coming over to take us to dinner, and then a party. So COME ON!"

I waited for a second to make sure she was done. Then I turned. Her brown eyes held a sense of urgency. "How about we stay here today?"

She rolled her eyes at me. "You're such a dreamer. Why don't you DO something with your life instead of sitting in some dumb field all day?"

I tried to hold this out for as long as I could, mostly to see if she'd actually listen. Her foot started tapping, so I began. "Why not?"
