Summary: Several days after the disappearances of both Basil and Jayana, the skies turn their attention to the wolves who remain within Hintertomb's walls... and its ire is reflected in the surface of the lake.

Excerpt:

...His paws were raw and his nails dulled by the time he'd finally turned back. The tunnels deep within the Catacomb's showed no sign of life, and only the faint traces of his companions remained in the darkness that bellowed its cruel, quiet song. His limbs felt weak, buzzing with that all too familiar dread that happened more than a year ago now. There are no bodies to recover, though. No obols to place, or twine to weave around still jaws. Just like Beryl, they disappeared in the blink of an eye.

So he did what he had to.

The tunnels responsible for these oddities have been marked. A barricade of stones, large and small, block off the paths from wolves seeking to continue the search themselves. What remains is an empty throat, calling quietly from the din for someone to pick up where Feldspar left off. Was it the right decision? He doesn't know, not really, and the guilt of it weighed on him as he dragged himself to the northern edge of the Pale Lakes, the faint traces of iron staining the stones from the many cuts and abrasions across the calloused meat of his paws.

When he arrived, the night was quiet. The lake rippled, and he leaned down to lap at the water to soothe the rough, brittle chords in his throat. Only when he drank did he realize the blood collecting in the tide, his head lifting just enough to peer at himself beneath the smears of red and black. The tide moved out again, and this time it he felt it. It tugged at the damaged skin in a way that felt... wrong. It burned, and Feldspar stepped back to observe his figure shift in the water, his back bristling at the shapes emerging from the depths of the Pale Lake.

A blackened halo rose, and suddenly the sky was plunged into darkness.

He knew it then, the answer to his question.

He had been fooled, and now They had him pinned.

Somewhere between his transfixed stare and his uncertain steps back, the shadow bloomed and stepped forward. It swallowed him whole.

The world was quiet for only a moment before a sharp, deep howl unfurled into the night sky.

The pack had to witness this. They had to know what failure looked like.

It would make sure of that.

Hintertomb will be experiencing a PARTIAL ECLIPSE this month! This event takes place after the latest string of disappearances, and it's up to you on how your wolf interprets the all-seeing eye of the Great Ones bearing down on them in full force.

Do they see it as a warning to the pack as a whole? Is it a sign of an ill-fitting Omen? Or is it, perhaps, an indicator that the Great Ones know the pack's weaknesses with how many have come and gone?

What does your Hinterkin do? Rather— what can they do?

IDEAS:

- Wolves can begin sealing off parts of the tunnel that have featured these odd disappearances. Feldspar has started the process, but he could not complete this work in time.

- Wolves can also patch up parts of the tunnel's many roofs where sunlight and moonlight spill through to ward off any unwelcome guests, at least until the Catacombs feel safe once again.

- Stones that grant protection may be gathered and placed around the territory, or tossed into the lake to disrupt the Great One's and their fixations.

- Hinterkin may temporarily go about their business during the day to avoid being caught unaware in the dead of night. How do they cope with this sudden transition from being nocturnal?

- Feldspar's behavior has taken an uncomfortable turn, something the other Hinterkin can't quite place beyond the knowledge that it is wrong. Do they begin to spread rumors amongst each other about what may be the cause? Do they reach out to Feldspar, or perhaps one of his remaining allies?
