Well, to start I draw the "dolls" in pencil first on card-stock paper, then ink them with permanent marker or pen. Also with the IZ dolls I try to make their limbs a little thicker than normal so when you cut them out they don't break off. To color them I have a TON of colored pencils, so I use those. Any brand will do really, but Crayola and Prismacolor ones are what I use most. Usually I'll draw the shadows on first, making sure to press pretty hard to get that smooth look (also a colorless 'blending' pencil works well to blend uneven color-- you can get one at any art supply store). Then I do the lighter shades, and for those I don't have to press as hard, just make sure the color is even. Again, a blending pencil helps with this step, and since the card-stock is a nice, smooth paper to begin with it usually turns out pretty good. The only thing is watch out for smudging, cause the paper doesn't always absorb all the ink. And for cutting them out you just need a good pair of scissors and an exact-o knife. Hope that helps!
