Built in 1907, it was one of 32 C-3 Class locomotives delivered to the Duluth Missabe and Northern Railroad as Duluth Missabe and Northern Railroad No. 348. In 1938, the Duluth Missabe and Northern Railroad became the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range railroad, which then resulted in the engine's number being retained. In 1955, the engine was sold to the Duluth & Northeastern Railroad where it was re-numbered 27. It was retired a few years later (Most likely in 1961, as that is the year all other steam engines working on the mainline were retired as they were replaced by Diesels) and then donated to Carlton County in 1968, and is currently on static display at the Carlton Country Fairgrounds in Barnum, MN. The engine is also coupled up to a red caboose. Both the engine and the caboose are decaying from the elements, and in dire need of either a complete restoration, or a cosmetic restoration.
