Hi y’all. I had a bit of a creative block while doing research for the next few character designs, and have been stuck in a loop. So that’s why I haven’t posted in a while, but now I think I’m past. Anyway, this is my new look for Freyr. He has more human like features similar to that of a cro-magnon. I wanted to make him look like a powerful leader but with a gentler side. Also, I’m rewriting the story for the Vanir Gods.

In my graphic novel series I’m brainstorming, the Vanir were actually made by the Æsir gods to be a slave class to carry out that work their masters were too lazy to do. For generations, the Vanir slaves away while the Einharjar and Æsir tormented them. Until an experiment by Hoenir created Freyr, a stronger and smarter breed to replace the old one. As time past, Freyr hated the gods and gathered his people to rebel against their oppressors. Along with his comrades including his sister Freya, the Vanir escaped to a lush forest realm they called Vanaheim. Eventually the Æsir would attack trying to subjugate their former slave, leading to the Æsir-Vanir War. Eventually, both sides came to a truce, with Freya becoming Odin’s wife. Until Freyr was forced to end Baldr’s suffering so that Ragnarök could start, leading him to exile her on Midgard after she attacked him.

I was rewatching Prince of Egypt awhile ago with my parents and thought back to that as inspiration for the Vanir’s new origins.
