Description
When Marr created his Torbaz to captain the great anchor-cities of the Abyss he made them creatures of the Void, able to step through it's murky depths and manifest it's contradictory non-existence in their own bodies.

And whilst that enabled them sail down deep into the heart of Oblivion and help slow the fall of a despairing goddess their nature was a double edged sword. The same manifestation of the Abyss that empowered them could also, handled carelessly, consume them, leaving them as lost as the goddess they sought to save, falling endlessly into non-being.

So Marr struck a bargain with goddess of a very different breed, the Light of the Alfar, Navigator of the Golden Way, the Glieospheric seer Clar-Rerva. The Signfier's were the product of that collaboration, hybridized from Marr's own experiments with Torbron stock and the Svart to produce a caste of priestesses blessed with light to dwell in shadow.

The Crones are a breed apart from their Torbaz relatives, revered and relied upon for their gifts which not only allow them to stabilize and enforce the reality of ailing void divers but also to guide their efforts to the weakest areas of Marr's great web, and shine their light upon what would otherwise be lost, strengthening and reinforcing it's reality in the face of obliteration by Omello's Oblivion.

The Crones remain only a small part of Torbaz civilisation, unable to breed true themselves and with the complex contradictions of their nature proving ever difficult to replicate artificially, every Crone birth to Torbaz parents is cause for celebration as a new priestess enters the sisterhood that lights the way and steers the path for the great anchor-cities.
