Description
Large featureless wasp/worm creatures whose primary distinguishing feature is their Biomimetic ability to absorb and integrate foreign material into their bodies and adapt it as an extension of their own biology.
An adult Vurmeline will typically be a perfect techno-organic fusion of the base flesh and a variety of useful technologies, resulting in an incredibly variable set of morphology's and capabilities.
On occasion a Vurmeline is born without their species innate abilities leaving them unable to integrate foreign elements directly into their bodily structure. For much of Vurmeline history these individuals, referred to as the Vorlone were functionally disabled, limited even in the best cases in their capacity to function as members of Vurmeline society, whilst in many cultures they were killed or abandoned at birth.
In modern times trade with alien civilizations has provided them with access to more traditional augmetic and cybernetic enhancements granting unprecedented independence. Whilst the Vurmeline's abilities ensured there was never a widespread need to develop such technologies themselves the Vorlone have taken to Dwarvish implants with enthusiasm.
Despite lacking the natural ability to integrate foreign material of their brethren the Vorlone retain the pliability and rugged physiology that allows easy acceptance of transplants, grafts and other procedures, making widespread adoption of Dwarvish techniques simple and straightforward.
Less easily resolved is the lingering social tensions and the legacy of centuries of benign neglect and outright persecution. It is not uncommon for Vorlone individuals to abandon their roots and live among the Dwarvish clans and colonies as adopted sisters.
