UPDATED NOTE: I saw the eclipse in person! Three priceless minutes in Island Pond, Vermont!

On April 8, 2024, a total eclipse of the sun casts a roughly 115-mile-wide shadow across northern Mexico, into the USA from Texas to Maine, and Canada’s Maritime Provinces. Because of the peculiar alignment of international borders, the southern extremities of Ontario and Quebec are darkened simultaneously with the US side of the eastern Great Lakes and northern New England.

Unlike the 2017 event that spanned the US from Oregon to South Carolina, this year’s eclipse falls within suitable driving distance from my home in northeast Massachusetts. Because of this fact, the 2024 eclipse has become a personal obsession of mine during the past few months. In fact, I have convinced my parents to take a multi-day vacation, ending up booking a hotel in semi-northern New Hampshire. Because the hotel is outside of the 100% zone, the exact location to watch the big day unfold remains uncertain.

In addition to catching this solar eclipse in person, I wanted to mark this very special event with a little pet project of mine.

Reappearing after a nearly seven-year absence, Arthricia and my OC Lauren Glass have come together to see the sun get blocked one more time. The view of these ladies is based off an alternate sketch I made back in 2017 that went unused until now. Numerous adjustments were made; therefore, this rendering has minor resemblance to the original.

I also considered a second piece featuring an assortment of Anthro characters who weren’t yet introduced at the time of the August 21, 2017 eclipse. The pool of such candidates is a big one, so I narrowed it down to nine characters that I could quickly think of, due to my obvious time constraints. But even before I began the actual work, I decided to combine them into a single scene. And here you have this image.
