  Jackson wasn't exactly in the best environment. It wasn't the town, it was more of his family. It's not that they were outright bad or mistreating, it's that they were inexperienced and shielding. They didn't let Jackson learn about the world and explore himself, and kept him from knowing things that would have been beneficial later in life. Because of their lack of knowledge in parenting, certain things didn't go well and he ended up getting taught lessons that only helped preserve himself. This is why he grew up introverted, and was scared others were only around to try and hurt him.
  Jackson started looking into moving away a few years ago. He loved his family, but he wanted to break away and learn more about the world around him. The Issho region looked like a good place to start. Eventually, he found the means to travel over and start somewhat new. And that's what he did. His family desperately tried to stop him, and it almost worked, but something spoke to Jackson about the region. Something told him that it would be a missed opportunity, so he went anyway.
  Once arrived, he immediately felt uncomfortable and unsafe. He realized that he was now completely on his own, most likely unprepared, and inexperienced. Mass panic started to settle in, before a few people approached him. He was scared of them, as they looked intimidating, but he listened regardless. They were members of Team Zephyr, and they ushered for Jackson to join. While he didn't exactly agree with everything he might have been told, he didn't want to seem rude, nor wanted to be any trouble, so he agreed. Besides, maybe they could teach him what he needed to know to be better off...
