uh, so I've been rolling around an AU in my head - my own version of a White Diamond Steven AU I guess? y'know the classic SU AU concept; what if different diamond steven/what if different gems crystal gems. My main idea was turning specifically the villains into the crystal gems of this universe and then figuring out how the heck that would change things. Bluebird Azurite replacing Garnet as the permafusion of the group, and then Jasper is an obvious pick as well. I'm toying around with the idea of Spinel being the last member? Or I might just go with Pink Pearl, because I have some ideas for her in this AU (although she isn't really a villain at all... she's just an easy pick lol)
And also Steven is descended from Rock Crystal Aka Crystal Aka White Diamond. (now there's another, more obvious reason the rebellion was called the crystal gems... because now they're Crystal's Gems...genius,,,,)

So I'm doodling some stuff for this AU when this design struck me. I spent some time looking for what gem type the fusion could be, and the most obvious answer truly was Bloodstone. The angst. The mystique. Honestly it was the perfect fit. (bonus: it's a name that doesn't end in "ite")

I'm thinking Bloodstone fills the roll of the Sugilite. The fusion that's powerful but prone to getting wildly out of hand.
Bloodstone's personality could be described as... severely dramatic. She's broody to an exaggerated degree and seems to have a deathly serious version of events playing out in her head for everything, at all times. Her favorite thing to do is turn her head to the side so that shadows cast across her face... dramatically. Bloodstone doesn't have time for silly games, the world is always at stake. And she's going to be the one who saves it.

Ultimately, she might not be as strong (or as big) as Sugilite, but Bloodstone is definitely a fusion for battle. With a helmet and a sword summoned, she stares oblivion in the eye, never flinching. Tell her the fight's impossible and that won't phase her, she'll just fight harder.
Which, that attitude is cool and all, but it does lead to her overexerting herself and refusing to unfuse. Even pain is rarely enough to break her apart. Your best bet is to somehow do enough damage to poof her components, or to reason with her. Perhaps by making her realize she got carried away and hurt someone/something she cares about.

"No... Maybe I'm... the real monster....."

She'd also probably unfuse eventually if she was kept in a very peaceful, happy moment for a long enough time. If it cracks through her severe outlook on everything it'll desynchronize her components, as they mainly fuse over their shared determination in fighting. Take the fight away and they'll fall apart.

As opposed to wings, Bloodstone has a water cape that she usually keeps summoned. She can't properly fly with it, but she is able to glide very well. She can also fold it to dive fast, peregrine falcon style. Her combined weapon would be an executioner style sword I'm thinking? Which isn't really the most ideal weapon for combat... but it's cool. so
It's that or like, a helmet with a blade on the front of it.

anyways, will I do more with this AU? Probably, I've been having fun with it. But will I upload any more of it? that will depend if I draw stuff that I think is cool enough to share.

Some boring Art talk:
For the first time, I used a stabilizer for the linework in this and I gotta say I'm pleased with the results! Especially because I wanted the lines to look smooth and clean. I don't think I'll use a stabilizer for most of my art, but for this style it really works. It also helped that I didn't have to draw each line 50 times to get it looking right.
I went about shading the main reference in an odd way. Basically maxed out the size of my ink brush and drew very light lines or dots, back and forth with the normal color and highlight color where it looked right. It's definitely not very thought out, but I like it.
Also I finally made a sort of proper watermark! I might use it in more the future.

Final random note: Steven's design here isn't what he'll probably look like in my AU, I just wanted a Steven here for scale so I drew the classic
