Description
Deep in the heart of the crowdThe Heart of the Swarm walked tall, proud
On the outside, her beauty is quite unmatched
On the inside, her soul feels lonely, detached
She surrounds herself with friends
To shelter her from the pain
The reality that she dreads,
Blows falling like rain
Without her, the swarm cannot exist
She lives off their attention, a parasitic cyst
Yet she drives them onward as their Queen
Spitting hot venom at those who won’t appease
They avoid anyone they deem ‘uncool’
A moniker for which only they make the rules
No one knows why she has become so harsh
Or why she leaves all those that love her in the dark
They do not see the empty bottles in her home
Or the father full of rage, eyes not his own
They don’t hear the cries of pain,
Because she suffers quiet as a mouse
She hides the slashed wrists
Under the long sleeved blouse
No one cares when she leaves, or worries until she returns
She knows the hard way that pain is given, not earned
So she lets out the rage, on others, on herself
To try and forget the sting of the welts
Until one day she returned and decided she had enough
She stood firm and finally called her Father’s bluff
A decision she knew would cause her strife,
But never considered it would cost her life.
The friends who laughed with her at others,
reveled in their pain
Now cry over her body,
Their Queen never to rise again
While they mourn her death,
others laugh and cheer
Never again
will they feel the Swarm’s fear
As their hearts break,
The Swarm dissolves
Stabbed in the heart
And pierced is their resolve.
