Under the dirt of the western land, is a big city where creatures that bring joy and those who go 'bump in the night' spend their days, or just visit fom time to time. It's a place where I live. Where I learn. Where I hunt.

My name's Rouge. I'm a 16 year old frost elf who just happens to work for the police. You don't see too many of those. Or girls. There's only one other girl besides myself who works here, then my sister, Holi, who's in training. She decided to learn how to defend herself ever since...well...you know what I mean.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm blasting in my ear. Great. Late again. If only I got get my butt out of bed sooner, I think as I grab my cloths and head for the shower. My sister always tells me I take showers that are too hot. Maybe that's why i've set the fire alarm off three times before. As I just step into the shower my sister yells: "Make it quick! Breakfast is ready and I don't wanna have to call Ben again to take me to school!" Ben's her boyfriend. She's 13, he's 14, but got his hover one year early so he can drive her to school. For us, unlike the surface people, you have to be 15 or have great skills to get your hover. I come into the kitchen to see her working away on the stove. "What you got a test today or something?" I say stuffing my face with Yarn eggs and mini cakes. "No Rouge. Maybe I'm just hungry." Holi says flipping some cakes. She always cooks when she'd nervous. "Ok then, I gotta get to work before the Slorn sees i'm late again." That's the workers secret nickname for our boss. A slorn is a 10ft tall green creature with acid spit. For all we know he is a mutant of some sort. Oh well. I hope that whatever he is he's in a good mood today.
