Kennar is from a family of scholars, although it didn’t come as naturally to him as it did to others before him. As a child, he liked trying new things constantly and had a hard time letting go of ideas, even though he knew that family tradition was that a Sage would only focus on one areas in their studies. Still, his interests grew until he felt the need to dash between studies. To make more time, he chose to stay in the family library, even though he loved the outdoors.

He continued isolating himself to focus on his studies for a few years, in spite of the doubts that developed. His thirteenth birthday came around, and, per tradition, he was allowed to select a Pokemon. He chose a Pichu which he named Ray. The small Pokemon would be a good companion in the library and maybe provide light for late night reading. He’d taken to studying with Ray in his lap, reading aloud to keep the little mouse entertained. Still, Ray would wander out of the library and force Kennar to go outside to fetch his somewhat unruly Pokemon, who would sometimes leave the family property to go to parks with a mischievous grin. After spending hours chasing Ray through a nearby park, Kennar rediscovered his love for the outdoors and decided he’d be a Pokemon scholar and trainer.

For a few more years, he divided his time between taking care of and playing with Ray and learning about Pokemon. The discovery of a set of clothing items that could allow Pikachu to use moves that weren’t normally in its moveset hooked Kennar on the mysteries behind Pokemon moves. He began travelling to do research and hear what other trainers and Pokemon scholars knew about them.

During his travels, he learned that the United Realms had a high quantity of these items, including ones that worked on Pokemon of all species, as well as books that were used to help teach Pokemon moves that were created with the help of alchemy. He began making plans to travel with Ray to the United Realms to continue his studies. For all of his time studying moves, he isn’t a particularly skilled battler and had at times forgotten to keep Ray’s training up. Before departing to realms, he negotiated a trade for a high level Piplup with experience fighting wild Pokemon, which is how Larry came to be in his care.

In the United Realms, he has spent three years as a wanderer. In his first year, he traveled and studied with various organizations in the United Realms. However, every bond he built within an organization hurt relations within another one, and soon found that his studies were trapped between competitions that he didn’t want to navigate. He left to explore the new kingdoms and work with them. He enjoyed this more, because kingdoms didn’t have as many strong rivalries and a larger variety of people and Pokemon. He recently went to Lhiandor to work on his first book.
