Description
The EggMaurice thought he was being helpful. He'd relieve some of Missy's stress and maybe have something to get his team to work together.
His teammates' reactions said he couldn't be more wrong.
Coco's fur was on edge, her tail was puffed out to its fullest, her back was arched, and her ears were pushed back shortly after she was shown the egg. Silver's reaction was less dramatic; he merely turned his back and curled up. His ear feather had drooped and his hat slid over his eyes.
"What's wrong?" asked Maurice. He hugged the egg closer to his furry body reflexively. He'd travelled with Coco for a while, and had never seen her react so violently to something. "It's just an egg."
"A Carvanha egg," hissed Coco. She began pacing, but her eyes never left the egg.
Maurice glanced down. It was a deep orange- or maybe it was red- on the bottom, and dark blue on top. In the large dark red area was a simple marking of a sideways yellow X.
"Wh-" started Maurice.
"We can't take care of that!" she continued. "We can't take care of any eggs? Why did you think we could? We don't know how much our house repairs will cost- there's bound to be several repairs. We already have one kid that can't pull his own weight around here. You didn't even talk to me. Why didn't you do that? Did you just assume I wanted an egg?"
"You're not a bossy nut like Coco is," mumbled Silver. "I thought."
Maurice wanted to say that he was the last PokΓ©mon that either of them thought of the other night when they made decisions. Silver had literally left a half conscious Maurice with the doctors to update his older sister on what was happening (that he couldn't blame Silver for, especially since his younger sister had joined the distraction effort), then Coco dragged Silver off on a mission. They both came back exhausted, badly burnt, and in capable of talking to each other. Then they went back to normal after sleeping.
"I'm sorry," replied Maurice. "I should have talked to you two before hand, but we have the egg now, we might as well see it through. Maybe after the egg hatches, you'll love it."
Coco hissed and stormed out the door.
"Miss Coco, I didn-" started Maurice. The door slammed shut. Maurice's breathing became ragged and heavy. He felt the egg slowly slip from his grip as the rage overtook him.
A fist slammed against the wall, followed by several more and a few feet. The wall had some cracks by the time he moved to the furniture. It wasn't supposed to be like that, he thought as he punched a hole in the wardrobe. They'd help out, take care of a kid, get closer, as friends. The Mankey kicked a window in. Nothing more had to happen. He smashed a table. He heard a whimper and the sound of creaking wood. Silver had climbed to the top of the wardrobe and was shaking.
"Silver!" shouted Maurice. "Please come down and talk to me Silver," he said. "I didn't mean to lose control like that." Silver shook his head, curled up into a tighter ball, and pulled a blanket over himself. Maurice walked slowly to the egg, picked it up, then fell against the wall, defeated. Why? Why did he do this?
