REACH THE SPLENDOUR OF HEAVEN THROUGH BROKEN GLASS-Iconoclast graffiti, artist unknown.
The Murphian Iconoclasm was a major social upheaval on Ross Prime involving the systematic destruction of major parts of the planet's light-related infrastructure. Before the iconoclasm Ross Prime was rated the most advertising-heavy and light-polluted planet in settled space with levels surpassing those of even Earth. This has primarily been attributed to Ross Prime's status as one of the first planets following the "company town" model of settlement and the planet's management by the Dizon Media Conglomerate. After a local man in Nuevo Ovalle by the name of Amit Murphy claimed to have received a religious vision from the stars urging him to destroy "unnatural light" a religious mania quickly swept the planet with hammer-wielding crowds of iconoclasts destroying building-sized advertising screens, store signs and even electric street lamps. Claiming that the colony's leadership had deliberately "hidden" the stars from the public (many of which had not seen a full night sky before), a march of armed iconoclasts forced the government to flee and instilled Murphy as Ross Prime's "supreme spiritual guide" while actual governance was given to regional self-organized iconoclast councils. The uprising would likely have been crushed had it not been for the eruption of the Extrasolar war just a week later. Not much news has left the planet since the end of the war, but according to scattered reports Murphy and the Iconoclasts are still in power, having adopted much of the SERZ's model of social organization.
