Even his fellow nerds would consider him a bit of an odd one. In one moment, he might be the consummate gentleman and scholar, carrying on spirited intellectual debates. In another, he is playing the part of the mysterious old soothsayer, guiding the heroes of tomorrow along their storied paths.

And for all his shifting ways, he is both of those things. A confirmed and well-lettered librarian, Kvasir has reviewed the stories of his people and held them against the living members of society and come to a simple conclusion: With all the suffering in the world, very few have learned how to deal with it.

Of course, fixing a broken heart or injured mind is not nearly as straightforward as a fractured bone or punctured flesh. And the romance of the stoic hero, fighting forward in spite of all odds, has given the Eisgar a frustrating resistance to the introspection needed to navigate the tribulations of mental health. 'The Hero went forth and put in the work through therapy' isn't the most engaging song, and Kvasir could never get anyone to join in the chorus at the pub.

The answer was revealed to Kvasir after a night of moping, eating Sundew berries by the fistful, and re-reading The Song of Salame for the thirteenth time. The Eisgar were a people of stories. And maybe, that was the angle he really needed to follow, if he was going to make any headway in helping his fellows deal with the guilt and strife of such a combative culture. The best part in the story (or at least, the parts Kvasir always fancied), was when a mysterious guide appeared, to help guide the hero until they were able to navigate the suffering of the world on their own. Then died heroically themselves.

Maybe, the world could use more guides. Ideally without the dying part.
