Description
As promised, I will go more in depth with the episodes. God help us allEpisode one: Aang. I said this before; it's been a long time since I've seen the original series, but even I knew something was wrong. Let's get the big one outta the way. Want to ruin one of the most impactful scenes in animation? Say he's the last of his kind RIGHT in front of his face, let him soak it in for a while, then go to the Air Nomads and go apeshit. Wow! I have never seen any series or movies do that before! Imagine if in A New Hope Obi-Wan told Luke about the Jedi and the force, and he was like "Oh! By the way Darth Vader is your father." You just spelled out the entire journey and ruin any character development in the process! That's gonna be a running theme here.
Episode two: Warriors. I have heard that Sokka is considered sexist, and to be fair that was because he was a kid. He had to grow and mature in order to get anywhere. So, when you take that aspect out of his character, how is gonna grow? Answer: He can't. In fact, it would've encouraged sexism rather than critiquing it. That's a extremely bad sign there!
Episode three: Omashu. This is where we get Azula. Oh my god! Her character has been butchered in this remake. The person she is not even kinda comparable to the person she was in the original series. She was unfathomably evil in the original. In fact I might go as far as saying she is the most evil character in the entire series! And if your knee jerk response to any of that statement is "Azula is not that evil! Look at the little scared cinnamon bun." Shut the fuck up you ridiculous person! People have unironically said that before and I'm sick of it! How do you look at her destroying cities, killing billions of lives, and think "oh she's not evil"? She managed to get away with all of this too! You wanna know why? Because she has everything at the tip of her figures! Yes she has a vulnerability, but that's in the heart. But apparently the version we got her is nothing more than an angsty girl. That's Zuko's job! Oh. By the way, they tried to combine four episodes into one and it doesn't work like that.
Episode four: Into the dark. Remember when I said this episode combines four different episodes? Well here we get the Bumi episode and the secret tunnel episode, both having the main characters split from each other. Aang is now fighting Bumi (who he recognized right off the bat), and Karata and Sokka goes through the secret tunnel without Aang. Killing any set up for Aang and Karata's romance because fuck romance. Uggh!
Episode five: Spirited away. So, Aang now gets closure despite never getting it in the original. Also Aang friends joined him in the spirit world. And the library owl makes a cameo (too soon I might add). And Koh is now a soul cannibal. Ok.
Episode six: Masks. The Ozai I know would absolutely pick Azula over Zuko. Here, it's like he doesn't like both of them. Which is jarring to say the least. Because you know, Azula is supposed to be a prodigy. But not here. No one is allowed to have character flaws. Plus, using Zuko as motivation for Azula is stupid: Because again she's a prodigy!
Episode seven: The north. This was point where I just gave up. Both of them to be exact.
Episode eight: Legends. So, I'll just repeat what I said eariler: This was the point where I just gave up.
So, those are my reactions. I fear what's about to come next. If there even is going to be a season two, which I'm pretty sure it'll come out. Because money.
