Description
This is for ~LemmieLem for winning #Musical-fans 's latest contest! It was a really fun request, since I got to do pretty much whatever I wanted... Hope you like the result!I saw PotO in London (review coming up! Also, it was fun noticing the man who played Monsieur AndrΓ© both times I've seen PotO was Bamatabois in TAC) and was reminded of how much I like it. Right after seeing it I was trying to be cool and was all "okay, I don't need to see that again in a while", but in reality I miss it already...
And Notes/Prima Donna is one of my favourite musical songs and scenes (do I smell another blog entry? Yes, I do). So, when given the task of "have fun!" with PotO as the subject, it was pretty obvious to go with it.
The Phantom of the Opera is not mine.
My Piangi is heavily influenced by this brilliant comic.

Haha, I love this scene. Everybody's so mad at each other.
And Madame Giry looks like some Tim Burton animator drew her. Which is really cool, by the way. They all look kinda like that, but her especially.
OH SPEAKING OF TIM BURTON. I WAS FINALLY ALLOWED TO WATCH SLEEPY HOLLOW \o/

I apparently can't shake that influence - I pretty much learned to draw by watching Corpse Bride, so the style is a part of mine... And when I tried to exaggerate the propotions here, it was a fast pass to Burton land of course.
\o/ Yay! What did you think about it?

Haha, aww, really? How sweet.
(Burtonville! Land ho! XD)
It was pretty good. Blood as fake as ever, but a good part of the movie seemed highly mentally disturbed (I mean more than usual, by Burton's standards), so that made up for it. Ichabod Crane has very nice hair, and I felt like Depp was trying to channel Basil Rathbone (early Holmes actor) when he went into detective-mode. It's the clipped, matter-of-fact way of speaking, I think, that reminded me so of Rathbone. The plot felt a tiny bit weak, but that might just be my sceptic side coming out. Burton's atmosphere was refreshingly morbid as always - I absolutely adore the pale, dreary gloom of the atmosphere. It's bloody fantastic. (No pun intended.) I giggled every time somebody's head got lopped off. I hope that's not a bad thing.

I think the plot is weak - I've still no idea what the five old men or whatever they were (it's been ages since I watched it) had to do with the plot... Might have to do with the fact I've always watched it with friends, and hystery has always ensued - we giggled too, and lots, so don't you worry! You can't really take Sleepy Hollow 100% seriously at all...

Yeah, pretty much.
I watched it alone, but we still had fun.

Unrelated, but people do like your comic, just look at the notes! [link] - and, mind you, when I post whatever on my own, five notes is already a huge number for me... So my followers like you better than me!

Love this scene too! Raoul's and Madame Giry's faces are my favorite. Raoul might be channeling Marius there in the best way possible.. XD

I've a theory that the characters of Raoul, Marius and Anthony (Sweeney Todd) are all channeling each other. They're just so similar. So, of course my art has to reflect this...

Of course! They are all idealistic stalkers in a world of anti-heroes and people dying around them and live through the end of the musical ahaha
I've also get the feeling sometimes that Marius/Cosette pairing is like the Raoul/Christine of Les Mis, poor Eponine and Erik should just hook up on their own. XD

True that! Though, if searching a suitable girlfriend for Erik from other musicals, I'd go with Elphaba, but who knows...

I LOVE THIS! Hahaha. Piangi just looks absolutely hilariously disinterested! (i'm obsessing over Piangi... omg...so perfect.)
I love, love LOVE your take on the characters! They're so brilliant! I really love Carlotta's dog! "hey, i'm a dog... everyone's upset... and I'm a dog"
The Giry's are perfect! The expressions are perfect! It's just perfect! Thank you for having fun and drawing this for me!
I also love Raoul's big bow.

Oh man, I love this! The designs are just amazing... straight-laced Madam Giry, poofy Boobzilla-Carlotta... And the fact that I actually influenced you in drawing Piangi made me squeal very, very loudly in delight. I'm honored.
This entire piece is gorgeous!

I'm so glad you like! I don't know, somehow I just found your Piangi haunting my mind when I thought about drawing this scene (not to say I don't like all your PotO comics though, I just read them and they're so funny!)...

Wouldn't it be awesome, if in Notes, when Carlotta came in (I don't know if she does this in the stage show; just the movie) but when she came in all "Where is he?! Your precious patron, where is he?!" Raoul was like "OH SHI-" and ran off?

XDDD It'd probably get the actor doing the improvisation fired, but yes, I'd love to see that.

Didn't think about that, must keep an eye on cast changes...
I suspect it'll be an insane last night when either Les Mis or PotO closes in West End.

I would want to be there, but there's one issue even more pressing than money - imagine how fast the last tickets will be sold when they announce there will be no more! I guess it'll be pretty much a matter of minutes... Hope they make DVDs of both when the time comes!
