Always up for something new or exploring to familiarize herself with surroundings, Winter is quite the character! She likes trying new things and especially likes seeing other ways of doing the same task. She isn't particularly afraid of taking risks and while it can backfire, she will usually take it as an experience as well as wisdom to know better next time. Many have proclaimed that the Lapras knows more than she honestly should but it isn't because she's a really smart cookie (though that can definitely contribute.) Indeed, the woman seems to be able to figure things out and piece things together with a sort of ease some people would be surprised with. It's certainly helped her in some situations and into pickles in others! Because of how she was raised and her attitude towards learning new things, she is always willing to listen to other viewpoints and is quite the open picture book, herself. She doesn't see things that are different from what she's used to as bad or even strange; she just kind of accepts it as normal. After all, being genuine and straightforward is the key to maintaining a healthy relationship (platonic or otherwise), right?
With being so open to others, their traditions, and all else; it's almost no wonder that Winter's morals are as gray and blurry as it gets! She can't care less for rules but does so in order to make sure she doesn't get into too much trouble… unless she knows it's better for her/her allies to break them. When she's out and about, she also has some very strange habits that may seem more than unconventional to most. This instantly goes to just how distinct she is! She sticks out amongst crowds despite her small size and she seems to carry a reputation wherever she goes! She seems to directly not mind this until she gets noticed by the very wrong crowd or until the rumor mill has her in a really disillusioned tizzy!
Her lively mannerisms definitely have their positives, but it definitely also has its downsides! After all, with a rowdiness that seems second to none, it makes her stick out like a sore thumb which could be awful depending on the situation. It's also pretty hard to get her to settle down which is also a downside in its own right! Her sense of humor and some of her interests are also definitely not… normal. She has more knowledge about these than one should probably know and she seems to be either unphased, just a little loony, or both! It can honestly disturb both friend and foe, especially when it's unexpected. Finally, it seems Winter, while not to the point of being self-centered, does seem to hold herself rather highly in terms of appearance and her abilities. She likes looking good and she especially loves to show off in public. Of course, with the wrong crowd, or done excessively, the Lapras can definitely find herself in a real pickle of a situation!
Island Name & Hometown: Aria, Snow Continent
History:
Winter never actually knew of her parents but one of them had to have been a Lapras. Soon after she was born, she was taken away for adoption since her parents wouldn't be able to provide for her. The adoption center was fun, though! She got a lot of care, a lot of milk (and later, food), and more! She learned to walk there and to talk to a good degree. At the age of five, the toddler was finally adopted by a pair of older Abomasnow women. The home she went to would be the best she'd ever thought of according to her!
The cast of older children and adults were colorful and Winter absolutely adored all of them! From her young age, everyone taught her a great many things on their own. The backgrounds, the stories, the relationships… It really shaped and normalized many things for the Lapras as she grew older. Her favorite things, however, were the arts of song and dance. She picked up on instruments almost as if they were second nature. Her most prized instrument was an intricately designed harp that she could take anywhere with her.
On Winter's eighteenth birthday, her family asked what she was going to do in life. Become a world famous musician? A world famous songwriter/singer? A world famous dancer? Maybe even an artist? They all waited on her answer until she proclaimed it herself: she wanted to… travel?! She wanted to see so much more of the world despite how much she loves Aria! She wanted to experience all of what life had to offer: the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between! While her family seemed a bit worried, they supported her decision. With several week's worth of food, clothes, and more, the Lapras was off to travel the Snow Continent… and perhaps more!
Slowy, but surely, Winter was definitely earning a sort of reputation! Using her clever tongue as well as her skill in entertainment, many had proclaimed her a merry bard in the constant winters of the continent! The Lapras seemed to like the little title she picked up and found herself getting some free lodging and food occasionally in exchange for her entertainment and services. Of course, when noticed by the wrong crowds, she used her cleverness and grace to get herself out of trouble. When she eventually found herself at the westmost city of the Snow Continent, Caister, at the age of 21, she very much fell in love with the different scenery. So many different people! The taverns, the community buildings, the ships! Oh, the ships intrigued her the most!
She was there for several months and found herself most often at a tavern and inn that she ultimately found a job in! Permanent lodging along with being able to eat, drink, and be merry? What a life! She loved talking to the sailors and their stories and she especially loved travelling around the giant port town whenever she was off work! There were certain sailors that frequented her bar late at night and she’d be more than happy to listen to their tales of the warmer islands, all diverse in their own landscapes, dungeons, and cultures. It really sparked an interest in wanting to know the other islands to the west where it was warmer. At the age of twenty-eight, seven years of working at the tavern, her wish came true when the captain of the sailors she befriended asked to be a part of their crew. After getting her coworker’s support in the endeavor, Winter joined the crew and set sail to travel the world!
The next five years of being a sailor where she helped out the crew and made their meals with their chefs were probably some of the best years of her life. There were good islands and bad ones. Ones that reared many crops and ones that were infertile wastelands. Ones with wonderful residents and ones with absolutely horrible ones. Oh, how Winter loved all of it! She picked up so much more in her travels now that she could be immersed, laced up stories and songs by the dozen to shanty along with her crewmates, and so much more! She also often wrote letters to both her family and her former coworkers at Aria and Castier respectively to let them know she was doing alright. Honestly, she was sure this had to be the most she could ever want. It had to be, right?
At last, their travels landed them in Ethovalon, a grand port town that now housed the legendary Global Communications Setup Foundation! Tales of them sprang all around these warmer waters so of course the crew couldn’t resist! Everything about Ethovalon, and in extension, Kala Island, was absolutely grand! Winter loved this beautiful town and even was piqued in interest over the rescue teams that were made! She was caught unawares when she bumped into a really tall Solrock. After a round of apologies, it was easy to become friends with him, especially with their mutual love of music. When she asked about the GCSF, the Solrock, who she now knew as Girasol, led them to his bosses of the rescue team. It took a little bit of convincing but his two bosses did eventually agree to let Winter on board.
On the day that her soon to be former crew would leave, she expressed her wishes to stay and, without a hitch, the captain allowed her to stay. A heartfelt goodbye ensued between her and her friends, promises were made to visit every so often, and a new chapter of Winter’s life had begun!
Too Long; Didn't Read Edition:
Winter was given up for adoption upon being born as her original parents could not care for her. She spent five years there before she was adopted by a pair of Abomasnow women who had a very large family. All her new family quickly taught her so many things about the world around her which left the young girl knowing that a lot of things, even if they were different, were normal! Her favorite thing to do, however, was to play music! And so, when she was eighteen, she decided she wished to travel the world like her relatives did and became a bard in the process! Later on, she’d arrive in Caister and secure a steady job as a bartender/innkeeper at one of its taverns! Seven years later, the Lapras decided to hop careers, becoming a sailor in order to reach even further out to the world! This, inevitably, lands her in Ethovalon where she would meet Team Alyssulip’s Girasol! The two hit it off very quickly and so, she was eventually invited to join the rescue team as a member of said team.
