Description

This is the map of the Sphere Of Humanity, the expanse of space that has been mostly explored and settled by humans. The Sphere encompasses the space within 16 to 18 lightyears of Sol, our star system. Most of the Sphere is nominally under the rule of the United Worlds, a governing body that has multiple Earth based and off-world nations under its banner. UW's actual power is concentrated in the Core region however, with most worlds the beyond the Core ruled autonomously by the local factions, powerful megacorps or off-world colonial governments of Earth based nations, often commonly referred to as freestars. Despite their autonomous rule, they have to send back resources to the Core, have to obey UW common laws, and they are very reliant on UW for capital, colonists, and exotic matter, the fuel required for hyperspace travel and communications. These conditions are less enforced as one gets further from the Core, to the point that the outermost worlds are a part of UW in paper only.

In the the past, UW established three multi-stellar protectorate states (the Novan Protectorate, the Procyon Protectorate, and the Protectorate Of Halcyon) in the Sphere, each ruling over systems that the UW deemed important. These protectorates were granted their own navies, their own source of exotic matter (though they produce relatively less quantities of exotic matter comparing to the one in Sol), and even more autonomy than the normal non-Core colonies.

The Procyon Protectorate and the Halcyon Protectorate violently liberated themselves in the devastating First and Second Colonial Wars, forming the Outworld League and the Halcyon Republic, and severely weakening UW and the stability of the rest of the Sphere. The dissenting colonists on the Red Trinity and Aegis systems quickly took advantage of the post Colonial Wars environment in the Sphere to earn their liberation with the least amount of bloodshed. Only the Novan Protectorate, the first protectorate to be established, remains. The leaders of Novan Protectorate awaits the almost inevitable fall of UW.
