Name - Matthias Hansen
Age - 26 years
Species - Human
Gender/Pronouns - Cis male ; he/him
Sexuality - Bisexual
Main Weapon:
Breath of Blizzard ; bone-white blade with a slightly opalescent sheen to it. Guard is a brushed nickel color, and the hilt is white, wrapped in indigo braided silk.
↪ First Form: Frozen Barrier. An upswing of the sword creates a wall of ice - not impenetrable, and usually shatters on impact, but can be used for his own safety and others'.
↪ Second Form: Crimson Frost. The blade of the sword falls to subzero temperatures. Each slash to a demon freezes as soon as blood hits the edge, slowing its movements for a short time.
↪ Third Form: Crystal Blade. The blade is coated in ice that can alter its shape (can extend its length a limited amount, become a hook, etc.). The more the form of the sword is altered, the more energy it requires.
↪ Fourth Form: Ice Dance. Slashing the sword sends an array of ice shards in the path the sword took. A ranged attack.
↪ Fifth Form: Mirror's Edge. Drawing the tip of the sword over surfaces that contain moisture freezes them solid. Virtually useless in hot/arid climates due to the lack of water on the ground.
↪ Sixth Form: Snowstorm. A spin of the sword summons a large shower of ice shards toward the enemy. The more shards and longer the storm, the more energy it requires. At most, the storm can last 4 seconds.
↪ Seventh Form: Blue Blood. Pressing the flat of the blade against wounds temporarily halts blood flow to prevent loss of consciousness - only slightly more effective than applying pressure, and can cause frostbite if used for too long.
↪ Eighth Form: White Wolf. Slow, curved swing of the blade summons a wolf of snow that increases the number of slashes made to six per swing. The most energy-consuming and powerful form. Typically a last resort, as it considerably slows his movements and prevents him from using other forms for a while.
Personality:
Overall, Matthias possesses an even temperament that allows him to see most, if not all, situations clearly and concisely. He's able to think quickly and solves most of his problems with ease. Once set on a task, he's extremely diligent and won't stop until the task is complete, regardless of how it might impact other things and people. That being said, he's also loyal as a dog; if he trusts and cares for a person, he'd give his life for them without hesitation.
Even around people he's familiar with, Matthias is a polite individual who tends to only speak when spoken to, or a general question is asked; oftentimes he's viewed as being cold and disinterested because of his seemingly "uptight" nature. He's surface-level and doesn't often share personal details which often leads to people not knowing much about him, and since he prefers to "go with the flow" rather than make decisions of his own in groups, this also leaves a lot of his likes and dislikes a mystery to others.
Though it's definitely lost him a few friendships in the past, Matthias isn't afraid to speak his mind, which often involves abrasive comments and hurt feelings. He's somewhat pessimistic and typically expects the worst of his circumstances, rather than get his hopes up, only to be let down in the end. Perhaps too easily, he can become a bit of a grump and snaps more than usual, though this is mostly when he's bothered when he's repeatedly told someone to leave him be, or something goes especially awry.

Biography -
An unplanned pregnancy, Matthias was born as the result of an affair between a wealthy boy and a poor farmer's daughter in Fredrikstad, Norway. Unable to take care of him but wanting to ensure he was fed and had a roof over his head, she gave him to the local orphanage, where he'd live out the majority of his early life after. Although life certainly wasn't at its highest quality, Matthias didn't know any better and had little complaint with how the owners of the orphanage operated. At age 8, a new child had entered the home, a small, blonde girl covered head to toe in dirt, hair matted and clothes disheveled. She had no name and had spent a large portion of her life so far living on the streets. Taking pity on her and perhaps feeling a special connection with her from the start, Matthias gave her a name of her own: Anais. They were practically inseparable from that day forward; she slept beside him, played with him and ate all of her meals with him, and he was all the better for it. Formerly a rather antisocial child who could be near-mute even on good days, Anais brought out something bright and warm in him that he hadn't known he possessed. They grew up together like siblings, and Matthias couldn't think of her as anything less, blood family or otherwise.
When he was finally of age, Matthias was able to leave the orphanage, and he didn't dare leave without Anais by his side. He took guardianship of her and they traveled a little ways outside of Fredrikstad to a small mining village situated at the base of the mountain range. They began learning how to trap and hunt animals for food and pelts, and sold what they didn't need for the two of them. The villagers were pleasant and everyone got along, though being that it was a small place with few residents, news traveled quickly. Rumors of demons infiltrating neighboring villages spread rapidly from home to home, but Matthias and Anais thought nothing of it; they doubted the likelihood of a demon targeting such a tiny village, barely boasting even thirty residents, and kept to their usual routine. Matthias continued to go out and set traps and fish, while Anais resumed skinning the animals they'd captured already and cooked them food for the day. After a morning and the majority of an afternoon spent in the mountains, Matthias returned to the village to find it eerily quiet. No lights flickered in the windows of the other houses, no smoke wafted from the chimneys, and no chatter echoed in the streets. As Matthias made his way to their own little bungalow, what he found was barely that; in its place was a pile of charred wood, remnants of flame, and ashes scattered across what was left of the stone foundation. Among the scorched wreckage, he found the body of Anais, unmoving and covered in soot and horrible burns, face-down in a pool of her own blood. He felt cold wash over him like he'd never felt before, his heart caught in his throat and teeth sunken so deeply into his bottom lip that he'd drawn a little blood of his own. Blankly, and barely able to move his legs, he turned and left his village, not looking back, vowing revenge on the demon who had slayed his home and his sister.
He knew that in the state he was in, though physically capable, he had next to no idea how to truly fight demons. He trained his body as much as he could, and began practicing the use of various weapons: axes, knives, swords, and so on, hoping he'd at least have some chance in the face of one. Longing to leave behind the bad taste in his mouth, however, Matthias left his home country and traveled far and wide, spending roughly a year traveling north and stowing away on a passenger ship to Japan. Though he assumed they were only rumors, he'd heard of Japan's prowess in demon slaying and hoped to find answers there. Arriving was a relief, after months of seafaring, he was eager to once again set foot on solid ground. Again he continued to train, and again he traveled in search of knowledge. Armed only with an ordinary rapier and his wit, he was unfortunately attacked by a demon while walking through the forest. Even though he wasn't entirely defenseless, he still struggled to fight it off, and unable to truly kill the demon, his stamina was rapidly eaten away. Beaten, bloody, and on the verge of giving up, in what he believed to be his last seconds, he opened his eyes to find the demon's head several feet away from its body and gradually dissolving into ash. Disoriented, it was only when the slayer spoke that he realized he'd been saved. She recognized his talent and offered to train him in the way of the demon slayers, and finally, Matthias' prayers had been answered. He accepted whole-heartedly and put his best foot forward, gave his all in every test she dished out for him, and at age 20, headed to the Final Selection with his master's sword and Breath of Blizzard techniques at the ready.
By the end, Matthias was one of the few remaining rookie slayers that had made it through the forest. He had cut down a great many demons and honed his techniques even further from what they had been, a quick progression that surprised even himself. Once gifted his uniform and his crow, white feathered and red-eyed, Matthias could only wait to receive his very own nichirin sword. Having heard of another Breath of Blizzard user, however, the current pillar was quick to scoop him up as one of his own. Matthias was merely eager to learn as much as he could, and happily followed after, complacent beneath the wing of someone who seemingly shared so much in common with him. He spent years in the Demon Slayer Corps, ignorant to the thought that a demon could ever possibly neglect the carnivorous and violent nature he assumed them to have, the hopeful heir to the blizzard pillar title. One particular outing with him, though, he witnessed something brutal and certainly unforgivable, vastly repugnant and completely opposite to his own personal morals. The man he'd admired for years callously murdered a small, helpless demon, begging for mercy, insisting they had never once killed any humans, right before his eyes - he was powerless to stop it, and yet every ounce of him screamed that this was wrong. Although impulsive on his part, Matthias' heart forbade him from continuing to follow beneath a man who couldn't see reason, and he fled during the night, abandoning his post and the Corps. Symbolic in his own eyes, perhaps, Matthias tore the sleeves of his uniform away and saw a demon tattooist to receive new sleeves, once again a vagabond, wandering from place to place with no real goal in mind. He continued slaying demons that he knew were evil, those who terrorized villages and stole children from their beds. It was only a matter of time before he ran into other demon slayers, of course; on a mission in Tokyo, Matthias unexpectedly encountered Hisoka and Asami . At the sight of the uniform, he nearly drew his sword, but was stopped by Asami before he truly had the chance. She explained their position to him and offered to take him with them back to the Blooming Wisteria, a secret branch of the Corps that protected demons lacking in bad intentions. Though he didn't initially believe her, he eventually allowed her to sway him and he followed after, falling into their ranks once he discovered they were, indeed, a real organization.
Only months into his occupation, and another slayer of the Blooming Wisteria was suddenly bringing home an oddly familiar face - Shizuha had found Anais. After all this time, thinking she had died, and yet she'd been looking for him all along, a demon, a shadow of her former self. Yet strangely, embracing her felt no different than it had before ...
