This Llama sketch started out as quick fun sketch from an ACEO or ATC for A-kon 21 and I liked the sketch so much I went ahead and painted it larger to 8x10.
I did jokingly (and had others say too) say along the way if anything I ever did, this would be the one that got me a DD.
So, thank you! <3 I didnt know I loved Llamas at all, until the day Llamas rained from the sky - so I had to draw a little Llamapeg of my own. (Unicorn+pegasus = Unipeg. Unipeg + Llama = Llamapeg).

And youre welcome to it however - thats all in all my style.
I put pencil lineart down on watercolor paper, paint, and then trace over at the end with watercolors and a tiny brush.
All in all, Im an untidy person with bright colors.
Im not a super detail orientated super technique person - Im the first to admit that.
Sometimes its not the perfection of the piece in an artistic sense, its how it touches your heart or moves you emotionally.
Is it even the piece I would have personally picked to get all this attention? No. Did I do a llama to gain this attention? No again, it was for amusement factor.

I know, but my comment wasn't for a matter of tastes, because, while i don't particularly like this style or this topic, my comment was more oriented to a cold looking, objective aspects of the drawing.
The thing is the following:
There has been such a boom in the llama thing, (which i think is kinda stupid) that when i see a llama drawing is like "awesome, another one..."
And, at least from my point of view, i have noticed that recently the quality of the DD and DeviantArt in general is getting lower, you can even notice that in the front page. While i agree with ^ginkgografix that a DD is supposed to draw attention to one artist specifically because A or B, it doesn't mean that any artist deserves that special treatment just because it is unknown or bla bla. Because if it was that way then almost all of us should get a daily deviation.
And i had seen DD made by such awesome and well known artist, so i think drawing attention is not the only objective of a DD.
Because, even if we may not like it, you can find regular artists anywhere, but special ones are unique, and there is where the attention should be drawn-
These things i just said are not talking about you, or anyone else specifically, is just a talk -with- you about my general thoughts
And now i don't remember what else i wanted to say, so i will end this super long comment here, if i remember something, i will write it later

And in general I totally agree, but maybe everyone deserves a moment in the sun.
I see many artists (while yes, great ones) get DDs over and over seems like they could shine on those that maybe could use the encouragement and hope to trust a bit in themselves.
Also, I believe ALL artists are special - we all have something to share and can grow.

You don't need to defend yourself or your drawing. You had no say in the matter as far as it getting picked for a DD. I think ~little-shiny-thing is making an outcry more to the admins for pointlessly encouraging their stupid new llama system of popularity.

It's not "the admins", but only me who was featuring it and i this was not featured because of the reasons you think.
In my opinion the llama system doesn't need any supports by DDs. It got famous on their own because people like it. However because of the success artworks like these get suggested and sometimes even featured as a DD.

Yes and again I thought my more simplistic, bright style would never hit the more serious, detail orientated and tending torward gritty or dark (and nudity) DDs ever.
However, Ill bask in my happy attention either which way and be highly amused by it ^_^

Certainly, nevertheless, I think this work needs more technic and dedication, is only my opinion, congratulations for this Daily Deviantion, but I think Starrydance have better works in hers gallery.

Perhaps, but not all art is about technique and skill. Especially for something like being feature for being a dA related/Devious Fun category.
If it was put against "serious" fine artists who are all about technique and precision and expressing ones self and making art for art's sake and not for any other motive, well then the "standards" for evaluating it would be different.
However, this piece was something put together last minute for some fun gathering of artists and expresses some basic joy in art that sometimes "serious" or "real" artists forget in their pursuit of honing their skill and technique.
Honestly, to your original question as to why it made DD... easy. Someone liked it. Enough that they wanted to share it with others. Whether others agree with that same "liking" (everyone holding varying standards and parameters of "acceptable" art) or not, is entirely up to the individual. But maybe it made the admin smile. And they wanted to share that smile. Maybe not everyone smiles back, but some might. And that's pretty solid.

Well and I'm sorry if I seemed too overbearing when it's a basic difference in opinion. It's honestly refreshing to discuss (as opposed to flaming/ranting/etc--I do rant/tangent, sorry) differences with someone else who can use complex sentences and the like. .____.
I certainly respect your opinion although I don't necessarily disagree with it so much as do not fully understand it.

It's the dA-related gallery. It's not where people submit their awesomesauce traditional drawings, digital paintings or even more amazing photography. It's restricted to dA-stuffs, like devIDs, stamps, CSSes, scripts and stuffs like that.
The thing is, unless something stands out as being, let's say, without the 'DD worthy' qualities members think, people don't realise it's from th dArelated gallery.
