Borealis is a runaway. He ran away from home at the age of 12 and has been thriving on the streets ever since. The name he goes by, Shadow, genuinely doesn't have any deep meaning behind it. He got it from some abandoned pet collar he found one day. He's a smart kid, truly, just doesn't know when to back down or to stay away from situations he has a 99% chance of dying from. Sees a lady being mugged? Beat the absolute shit out of the mugger. See a random filthy orphan kid running around? Adopt him as your little brother. Shadow's a bit of a wild card.
Adopted brother in question doesn't have a clue about Shadow's real name and age. He would ask, but he knows it may not end well.
He dyed his hair and stopped shaving in order to avoid being recognized as a missing person, and as much as he stands for justice, he did it by breaking into a hair salon in the middle of the night and stealing some bleach and dye. A hair brush too.
And combs.
....and several bottles of hair wash.
.......and the shops shared packet of Dr. Pepper.
Either way, good kid.
