Either one really. Very interesting video.

Well that certainly was interesting.  It was weird, got boring at times, but i still pushed through it and I actually enjoyed it.  Heck I might watch it again sometime.

It's also kind of reminds me of the fantasies i had as a kid being in a world where all my favorite characters come together and interact.

yeah I was sort of straining for ideas for keeping the first part interesting since I needed something to lead onto the main fight. I always love thinking how different characters would react to each other from different series. Glad you enjoyed it!

Very good work, I know how hard doing something like this can be in Blender, and for the most part it was phoenominal.  I did however notice some audio mixing issues, where to actually hear the voices at one point I had to turn up the volume and then music started that I was afraid was going to blow my speakers for a moment.  there were a few points where parts of geometry seemed to flip over, but that may have just been Freestyle in its early stages.  Overall, this was pretty good.  Look foreward to seeing more.  :3

Someone else also said they had trouble hearing the audio, I think I may add subtitles soon to the youtube version, or try and replace the upload here with a different one if DA allows it. Could be freestyle, but freestyles become pretty good so far, I think it could just be my modelling / rigging ^^: Thanks!

I see. XD. And yeah i love freestyle but its render times are unfortunately long. It may be a small issue check their weights and make sure it wasn't just my imagination. XD. Sounds good. :3

Yup freestyle does take ages to render, but I'm glad they included it in the main build. I remember I was doing a test animation when freestyle was still in an unofficial build and it would crash after rendering like 5 frames, I had to repeatedly restart blender and slowly render out the 300 frame animation about 5 frames at a time, it was horrible

Sounds like a headache. XD. It seems more stable now but i look foreword to things they do in the future. Personally i would like compositing for physics to be added in replacement of the current system because think of all the functionality the compositor gives post production and add it to the physics properties. :3

STChimera In reply to firedrake150 [2014-02-14 17:55:30 +0000 UTC]

that would be nice, I haven't fully explored all of the blender physics like fluid and soft-bodies, but I've used cloth a lot and it could definitely do with more improvements. In some of the more complex animation movements I've done the cloth would usually get tangled up, so I would have to tweak some settings, then re-bake the entire cloth simulation again. It would be nice if they make it so that you can bake the cloth simulation, go to the point where the cloth messes up, tweak settings then continue to bake from there on, instead of having to repeatedly start from the beginning again and again (sorry I'm ranting now XD I haven't really been too fond of blender's cloth simulation!)

Indeed. :3. Plus the ability to set up your own physics rules in that compositor would be awesome. Have it simulate what your fantasy worlds would be like you know?

oh you mean like change gravity and air resistance and such? that would be pretty neat!

Right. XD. And other things especially if nodes. XD

STChimera In reply to firedrake150 [2014-02-14 19:35:53 +0000 UTC]

if nodes as in 'if something = true, activate this node'? I haven't don't much scripting in blender but I would think you could do something like that in it's script editor. Are you thinking of game development in blender?

Not really since Nintendo supplied unity pro for free but i do have ideas of stuff to do in blender that are hard at best. Figure a cycles rendered crystal then a bullet (or something) striking it immediately stopping the crystal cracking slowly at first gradually speeding up before the entire crystal explodes. This cannot be done at present easily. Cell fracture causes all fractures instantaneously and rendering renders the shattered object. Sure you can scale the non busted to 0 and the busted to 1 when it comes to be impact frame but then all cracks are there at once. Not a gradual progression. So what if there was a property where you could add a compositing node after fracture saying "add cracks gradually". And a sub option being from impact. If that were the case youd cell fracture go to the frame you wanted the crystal to explode and then cause the rest if the explosion using the node for the time in between. No real feasible way exists in Blender to do this currently.

STChimera In reply to firedrake150 [2014-02-14 20:21:54 +0000 UTC]

that does sound like it would be too complicated for blender's cell fracture add on, do you know if it's easier to create cracking like that (I take it you mean cracks slowly spread from the centre of impact across the crystal then shatters it) on a different 3D program, like maya for instance? To me it seems like a complicated task for any 3D program, unless there's like a special script for it or something.

I don't know actually. :3. It would make sense but it does seem hard for programs to handle

STChimera In reply to firedrake150 [2014-02-14 22:19:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to be switching from blender to maya now (mainly because my university uses it), so I may play around with the physics some day and see if it can do something similar ^^

What is it with Sephiroth always dying whenever he has his opponent already pierced and broken?^^ You'd think he would have learned his lesson at some point.

Nice fights and effects, yet I have to say that all the normal slow walks still look extremly awkward. This coming from an animschool student.

Hm who knows maybe he's begun to enjoy it?

You're right, I didn't pay much attention to the walks  than I should have, I think I sort of rushed most of the animation before the fight

I remember the sasuke and sephy fight you made a while ago.

You managed to mash together everything any otaku or whoever likes, and not have it burn to flames.

I salute you, kind sir/Ma'am.

And give you bouncy remnants.

And a watch.

thanks a lot! XD Yeah it's been a lot of hard work so far, I've been dreaming of the day I'll press the upload button for this vid .... and here I am! XD I've got a few ideas... but I think for now I'm gonna take a nice long break from animating. Hope you enjoy watching it!
