Background / History:
Sergei (and his sister Nadia) grew up in a small rural village near Kursk. Their parents were simple hardworking folks, who struggled to get pregnant. Their mother took a chance and went to see an old wise, woman who lived in a nearby woods. The old woman gave their mother some herbs to mix into her tea that were supposed to increase fertilization in women.

The herbs appeared to work perfectly, but what the old woman (who was Baba Yaga in disguise) didn't tell her was that the herbs came with a price, her children were to be cursed.

On their 12th birthday Sergei and Nadia under went a change. Sergei's was the much more dramatic of the two. Over the next couple of weeks he grew in size - to nearly eight feet tall. He took on a goat-like appearance and his body became covered in shaggy grey-white fur.

The change was impossible to hide, neighbors believed the family was cursed and began calling Sergei "Ivanushka", after an old folk tale. Before long government agents showed up and took Sergei and his sister away. They entered a training program for people of 'special talents'. Eventually they were assigned to the Iron Guardians.
