Description
If you use this tutorial, even the smallest about of credit back to me would mean the WORLD to meI FINALLY finished my very first tutorial
well this isn't much of a tutorial but more of a referencesheet of how to draw animal skulls on bandannas for that extra awesomness factor to your character
I've searched the web for animal skulls and drawn my version of how I believe them to look like on a bandanna
this was alot harder that I had expected since one has to incorperate a 3D skull onto a 2D bandanna and then add perspective and folds into the fray
but anyhow these are the short list of animals I've drawn:
- Red fox
- Grey wolf
- Siberian Tiger
- Brown Rat
- Saltwater crocodile
- Velociraptor (probably my favorite one since it's =Illogical-Lynx character Murk
- Brown bear
Feel free to add any kind of ideas that could improve this tutorial, and perhaps what kind of animals you would like to see on this list

I am in no way saying that this is a ripoff of that dying game. I'm just saying that this is a good reference sheep for someone to draw skull bandannas for anthros.

Hey, it's ok. We all have those bad periods of time. I know how you feel, haven't had the motivation or drive to draw as much as I used to. Hopefully that will pass and your week will get better. ^^

I used your tutorial here: [link]
I'm soooo sorry i forgot to tell you sooner. I had written down your name and everything and just down right forgot Dx
But, there it is! This really helped a lot. My character in that picture has a breathing mask type thing that he wears under his bandanna so that he can breathe in high altitudes. Your tut helped a lot on getting the wrinkles right.
Thanks :3

Skull bandannas are totally sickly awesome, and it's good to see a tutorial to identify what some skull bandannas for different species would look like!
Great job, and good list of species!

I'm not normally a fan of anthros, but I love how you seem to draw them almost as they are, rather than just having humans with tails ^^

ah thanks to hear someone who feels the same. when i draw anthros they are supposed to be animals, not some bloody human with a tail and cat ears (wich just makes them look bloody ridiculous if you ask me )
I mean I like drawings of humans too, I've personally just given up on learning to draw them for now ^^

Hmmmm... The canine and feline skulls can work for possibly any species from those groups... I've seen a couple koala and kangaroo furs; maybe a tut for those two? Ah ha... I bet an anteater would be interesting... lol! That's all I can think of for now.

Awesome stuff. Dunno If I will ever use it though. I might if I start to draw with photoshop or something. Traditional is kinda tough, but I hardly even know the basics of Digital. I need a tablet..

haha yea, that would been a cool sight but I think I might give these masks to someone else than my own guerrillas, perhaps mercs or a extremist guerrilla group.

I also picked up on the distortion effect that a 2D bandanna would have in a 3D shape (especially wrapped around a muzzle). Somehow "flattening" the skull across the bandanna is a hard thing to do (especially in the case of animals since humans and other primates generally have relatively flat faces).

SteinWill In reply to ChapterAquila92 [2010-01-07 00:49:29 +0000 UTC]
yea that was exactly what I had so much troubles with when drawing the skulls on the bandannas.
but yea thanks for the comment^^ wouldn't mind seeing you trying trying these kind of bandannas on some of pokemon rebels

ChapterAquila92 In reply to SteinWill [2010-01-07 01:40:48 +0000 UTC]
Heh, I might consider it. Just a matter of deciding which one (PLA is more of a vigilante SoF group than an actual rebel group, considering who they're fighting against). A small number of them have a slight criminal background though, so I may be able to slip that in (most likely for show since they stick out like sore thumbs in a human majority anyways).
Now that I think about it, this is perhaps a project that will require the ability to produce a variant of the Mercator projection (often seen used for global navigation maps). This involves seeing how the 3D shape actually translates into a 2D sheet. How this is done is by taking the 3D object, cutting its surface into longitudinal strips that are then laid out flat side-by-side, and then stretching the extreme ends of the strips to fill in the gaps. That is why we often see Greenland appearing twice as large as South America on maps using the Mercator projection. Since the bandannas only use the print of a skull from the sides, the front and the top, that will probably make for an easier job since you don't have as many gaps to fill as opposed to the full shape. I may be wrong since we're not talking about a compressed sphere such as a globe (even if all geographical features were flattened to the same level, the Earth would still not be perfectly round due to the bulge at its equator), but it's worth a shot.

sounds like you defently don't need any help drawing these bandanna skulls
but yea the bandanna masks for my guerrillas are mostly just for the guerrillas image than practical use. pluss bandannas are highly assosiated with latin american revolutionaries so good guyes can wear them without beening assosiated with terrorists.
but yea the bandanna masks on your story could be more than just for the show but also have purpose of making the wearer more frightning and mysterious looking (pluss more cool )

Excellent work as always. just one question, for the crocidile did you use a reference photo for the frontal view or did you do it from scratch?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SteinWill In reply to DeltaForcer4Hire [2010-01-01 19:33:20 +0000 UTC]
ah actually no I used a photo for both the crocs, drew over the photo wich is abit of a cheap trick. but I didn't feel like over working myself.
well I used that photo reference trick for all the animals here since I wanted to see if there was anything I could improve upon and draw differnt wile I did it.
but yea thanks for the unique comment as allways

Everyone uses a shortcut at some point and the last thing any of us want is for a friend, you, to get stressed out, especially at the begining of the new year.
The reason i asked though was the frontal view on the croc didnt seem perfectly centered, it looks tilted slightly downward and turned alittle to the left which gives it the look of a big mischevious grin, which i think looks awsomely intimidating.
