Description

This is a collage I made of the Tim Burton Burtonverse filmography - part 1.  Vincent Price's Vincent Malloy from Vincent (1982). Michael Yama's Wicked Witch from Hansel and Gretel (1983). A Bull Terrier dog's Sparky from Frankenweenie (1984). Paul Reubens' Pee-wee Herman from Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985). James Earl Jones' Genie of the Lamp and Genie of the Ring from the Faerie Tale Theatre episode "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp" [1986, season 5] and Brad Bird's Jonah from the Amazing Stories episode "Family Dog" [1987, season 2] and the Family Dog [1993, season 1] spin-off series.

Tim Burton directed Vincent (1982) starring Vincent Price. Ken Hilton composed the musical score. It was released in theaters for only two weeks in only one Los Angeles cinema in 1982 with Matt Dillon's Tex (1982) Disney teen drama flop because Disney chairman Card Walker thought Tim Burton's Vincent (1982) was too dark and scary for kids and was Oscar subbed by the Academy Awards.

Tim Burton directed Hansel and Gretel (1983) starring Michael Yama. Johnny Costa composed the musical score. It was aired only once on the Disney Channel on Halloween night in 1983 because Disney chairman Ron Miller thought it was too dark and scary for kids.

Tim Burton directed Frankenweenie (1984) starring Shelley Duvall. Michael Convertino and David Newman composed the musical score. Disney co-chairman Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg refused to release it and fired Tim Burton in 1984 because they had decided Tim Burton was too dark for Disney and too scary for kids.

Tim Burton directed Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) starring Paul Reubens. Danny Elfman composed the musical score. Warner co-chairmen Bob Daly and Terry Semel actually released it in theaters nationwide and it became a big hit but was Oscar snubbed by the Academy Awards.

I left out the Tim Burton directed Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode "The Jar" [1986, season 1] update of the original Norman Lloyd directed Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode "The Jar" [1964, season 2]. Danny Elfman composed the musical score for Tim Burton's 1986 update version of "The Jar" and Bernard Herrmann composed the musical score for Norman Lloyd's 1964 original version. The 1960s Alfred Hitchcock Hour aired on NBC. The 1980s Alfred Hitchcock Presents aired on NBC.

Tim Burton directed the Faerie Tale Theatre episode "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp" [1986, season 5] starring James Earl Jones. Michael Convertino and David Newman composed the musical score. Faerie Tale Theatre aired on Showtime.

Tim Burton was the character designer and animation designer for the Amazing Stories episode "Family Dog" [1987, season 2] written and directed by Brad Bird and starring Annie Potts and the Family Dog [1993, season 1] spin-off series written by Paul Dini and directed by Chris Buck and starring Martin Mull. Danny Elfman composed the musical score for the Amazing Stories episode "Family Dog" [1987, season 2] and the Family Dog [1993, season 1] spin-off series. Amazing Stories aired on NBC. The Family Dog [1993, season 1] spin-off series aired on CBS.
