Some background. Susan Sweet is an owner of a horse ranch. Her parents died mysteriously. She is basically chased by the evil banked Samuel Salt. In order to pay the mortgage on her parent's ranch, she signed up for the Steel Ball Run race. Samuel Salt wouldn't quit. If he couldn't be forced into marriage to him, he can kill her through an "accident". So Samuel tried three times during the race. Once tieing her to a log being fed to a buzsaw, once trying to blow her up in a cave, and the third straping her down to train tracks. This last time, she was saved by fellow racers Jonny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli. They then taught her The Spin.
