Description
These past few months I've been working on finishing off some projects for Christmas presents. For my nieces, they are getting a trio of rabbits. I needed to make a mockup because the pattern was a bit dodgy and I needed to work out what I needed to modify.
The changes I needed to make were as follows:
- Ignore the method of sewing the head on that was instructed by the pattern, as it results in the head facing towards the side, not towards the front.
- Make the face larger to make it look less creepy.
- Lengthen the ears as the original ears didn't look like rabbit ears as they ended level with the nose.
- Modify pattern for the arms as the maths didn't even remotely add up (I rewrote that part of the pattern in it's entirety)
- Rewrote the pattern for the feet for clarity's sake as it originally didn't use standard knitting notation and often gave steps out of order
- Stuff the body of the rabbit larger then instructed otherwise the rabbit was very top-heavy.
- Clarify instructions for the sewing of the limbs and ears of the rabbit, as the method provided by the pattern is both ill-advised and near impossible to accomplish given the needle size.
All of these changes and more, makes me very glad I made a mockup.
I have a trio of rabbits to make. The first is nearly complete, the second and third are both about a third of the way towards completion. But, given I have completed this mockup I am now able to speed through it in a way that was previously impossible.
