Description
You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however. -Richard BachThis is dedicated to the power within all of us to make our dreams come true, whatever they may be. And getting this done is literally a dream come true for me. This is my first “all new” piece of art after several years of intense meditation to work through some very challenging personal issues. I’ve wanted to get good at digital art ever since work was just beginning to be done with Photoshop. Finding Deviant Art, learning how to use Corel Painter, and finishing this has been one of the most amazing things in my life.
The Power of Creation
4098 x 5535
Corel Paintshop and Painter 11.
Around 100 hours of time (as I get better and better, the time it takes to do a work like this drops dramatically. I could probably do something like this in about 60 hours now (2011)
Also, I’m just really happy with the way this piece turned out! But at the same time I’m aware of how much amazing art is out there and how much better I can become. It’s all a process though, and this is my first “All digital” piece. Gotta start somewhere, things are what they are.
Hopefully I didn’t go too overboard with the detail . . . we’ll see what people think . . . and I would love to here what you think as well!
Edit: Fixed "tear" in the bottom left hand corner.
2nd Edit: People weren't getting the whole "galaxy coming out of the womb thing" so I changed it to just a general glowing effect. And I ended up really liking it a lot better because I think it lets the viewer's eye go more easily to her face. Which in the end, is how I wanted it to be anyway.
To see the "first final" version in my scrapbook here: steveallredart.deviantart.com/…
edit 4/16/11: So I got some really good advice on how to make this piece better, so I went back and re-painted a few things. I've gotten so much better. . .
I still want to make this piece better too. . . I really want to get good at space art. Once I do, I'll have to come back to this and make it look like she's ACTUALLY in space, the way I originally wanted.

Thanks. This was done primarily with the program corel painter, one line at a time. Although I used paintool SAI to add some finishing touches. I wish I would have know how awesome a program Sai is before I started this piece, it would be even better than it is.

Beautiful. The background reminds me of fractal art, but with more organic form to it. The use of light and dark here is also really effective.

Thanks Kxhara. I love fractal art, so I definitely think that had an influence.

... words fail me, but I'll do the best I can.
The proportions are simply incredible, as is the detail. The patterns around her are really well don eand fit the image perfecty.
The ethereal coloring works really good with the background and combines really well witht he overall image.
Really, it's probably one of your best works ever.

Thanks for such an awesome comment! I've actually had a couple of people be really critical of my proportions in this piece, which has led me to study anatomy with renewed vigor. Still, even though I do see how I could improve things a little, I just really like the "style" of it. And yeah, I think it's one of my best works too. Although, the stuff I'm working on now is pretty cool too.

This picture reminds me of finding....me. It speaks so many words. All of your art though speaks volumes. There is indeed a lot of mind set put into your pictures. This one must of been hundreds of hours of meditation.

Thanks Aunty, although I don't know if I put quite that much effort into it. I may have inadvertently spent that long thinking about it, because I took a break from it for a couple of months. But I have spent tens of thousands of hours in general working on my inner state, which is a "conduit" and "well" for the creativity. So in a way I guess hundreds of hours meditating isn't that far off. I'm glad you like it. Thank you so much again for taking the time to look at my work.

"The Power to Dream",in my opinion it looks like some Godess creating new Galaxies and expanding the Universe with the power of her mind, whatever she imagines comes to be, also she is weaving or reshaping some of the Universe with her hand,a new Galaxy born, maybe a different one destroyed or re-arranged...Its sounds super epic lol,but thats really what comes to mind when i look at this. Good job Steve! It's crazy, I was actually in an Art and History museum today after a docs appointment and alot of the paintings/art i saw were not as good as these 3 pieces.I swear to GOD!!!.. But everyone in this world sees beauty in different things and perceives the world differently.Keep up the good work!

Thanks, It's really cool of you to take the time to look at my work and comment on it. The quote from the top is from one of my favorite books "Illusions." Another one of my favorites by the same author (Richard Bach) is "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." If you're into reading at all, they're awesome and pretty short, (it takes most people only a couple of hours to read each.)
