Description I wanted to do a Zootopia fan-art, and since it's still Easter in my country, why not paint Judy?
Of course, she is really confused as to how are rabbits related to this holiday. Yeah... i don't get it either, but, oh well...

Finished this fairly quick compared to my other works. Started it on Sunday, finished it today.
I am sorry for the simple background, but I wasn't sure what to do, so I kind of improvised

I hope you like it, and I'm waiting for your feedback

I'm sorry the art is good, but I just don't like Zootopia like that.

Β : Because I LOVE bunnies. That's where the connection between bunnies and Easter comes from.
Β : That makes no sense.
Β : Deal with it. *Thug life music starts playing.*

Great picture. Just thought this story was too funny to be unwritten.

Maybe there were rabbit holes at the crucifixion and one popped up saying, "Excuse me, but these large sticks of wood are going down into our warrens. Would you mind?"

Wow, thank you for all the information guys. It honestly was a slight curiosity of mine to go along with the pose I drew Judy in. So happy to see this community being so nice and helpful ^_^

It was originally believed that the bunny was a hermaphrodeite due to its androgynous appearance/shape and that it gave birth without mating, like the Virgin Mary did with Jesus.

Now I get new feedback for you:

Rabbits, being prolific (very fruitful, like with the Hopsses having 276 young, Judy included) procreators, are therefore ancient symbols of fertility and new life. Renewal. That's what Easter is about, even to non-religious celebrators who don't know it's specifically about Jesus' resurrection.

If that doesn't help, let's say, like some sources say, the Easter bunny custom started in Pennsylvania in the 1700s when the bunny arrived with German immigrants, himself known as Osterhase, and children laid nests and, in case he got hungry from all that hopping, carrots, and he left them colored eggs, candy, and to replace the nests, baskets, and it eventually spread out.

I just found it out from searching it.

Wait. I got some of it wrong.

Part of the whole Rabbit and Easter thing may have to do with a goddess by the name of Eastra (I think that is how it is spelled). Eastra was the goddess of Fertility and Birth/Rebirth, and her animal symbol was the rabbit. Therefore when Christianity became the dominant religion, the day for Eastra became Easter.

Actually, this whole 'spelling similarity' argument is called 'false etymology' - just because it sounds similar doesn't mean it's related.
Here's a 15 minute video by Jimmy Akin where he debunks the pagan origins of Easter, tell the real origins of Easter (13:00) and also discusses the 'false etymology' thing (7:52):. Enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVjrMy…

The rabbit is sometimes considered a symbol of rebirth. Which goes with the whole β€œresurrection” point of Easter.

StevenDrawsThings In reply to Wyvern0125 [2016-05-04 09:12:25 +0000 UTC]

I looked it up now. Yeah, rebirth and fertility. Makes sense because of the way rabbits reproduce.

Eeyup. And eggs are a symbol of life as well. So: Bunnies + Eggs = Modern Easter.
