Description
This is my final version of my Storm and Wolverine picture.I coloured this by hand with pencil and then a few minor touch ups with Photoshop.
This was inspired by Joe Madureira's work on the 90's X-men book.
This is one of my few pictures I am actually fairly satisfied with.

So, did you reference Joe Madureria's art from the X-men book for this piece? It looks like an interior page from one of the times the team faced off against Colossus's brother Mikeal and his reality warping abilities. When Mikeal was leading the Morlocks under New York. It came out good.

I probably did, I know I was using a lot of my old comic books at the time for some inspiration and I do like Joe's work so I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this was the case.

Yeah, I will get you the comic number. Would have to dig it up. It is an interesting issue, done right before he left Marvel. It was used a lot in promotional pieces by Marvel as well. Just remember to note your reference cause there are people out there who WILL know where it came from. We all learn from others,so don't feel bad about it. Just don't sell a copy as your own original, kay. That is just stupid. Tracing is a part of drawing when you are learning spotting blacks and inking.
When you don't cite work used in your own work, well...I think it is said enough.Don't get a swipe title to your work, it could kill your reputation if you want to get into the industry.

I couldn't agree with you more mate.
To be honest I'm not here to sell anything or to make a name for myself... just looking to get some honest feedback on my sketches etc. Honest feedback is where I think I'll be able get tips on improvement.
If I have used reference material for anything I have done then I have no problem with giving credit where it is due, a lot of the pictures I have put up though are fairly old so far so therefore I can't remember most of the time how the picture came about.
Regardless, I haven't traced anything that is in my gallery but I will say that some of the stuff I have uploaded probably is based on existing artists work, but tracing that stuff would probably ruin my comic books

Doing that job by eye along is showing you have a great talent within you! I mentioned tracing only by way of learning. Sometimes with inking you want to go over the inked job of others so you get a feel for how the inkier is doing his job. Seeing that it is done with computers now a days, it is all about the pencils now.
Don't be afraid to note who you like. We all do it! it helps get names out there and letting us all know who we are. You have a talent, don't be afraid to work it! Oh, and using age of a comic that your are taking reference from without noting it still doesn't take away that if you don't cite it, you're trying to say that you are the one who created it. Just look at what Nick Simmons did with Bleach and some Deviantart pieces he made for his book. Everyone hated him for that and he killed a possible career choice.

I completely agree with all you have said there... and I will take on board trying and at least putting a bit more information on my work... inspirations etc. Hopefully this will be easier now as I think I have run out of my old pictures and will have to actually start doing some new stuff
I'm using being on here as a big learning experience and I am hoping by looking at some of the great work here and getting feedback such as yours

This was one of my first attempts at trying to get back into drawing after not doing it for quite some time.
I have the fever again now though and am hoping to do some more and hopefully improve my skills a bit as well.
