Some people might recognise the image i used as reference. It's of a Palestinian kid, one of hundreds murdered by israel in it's brutal offensive in Gaza last December. I just want to add an extract from a Human Rights Watch report that was released earlier this month.
"I want to understand whether I did something wrong to Israel to be
punished like this."

It's a very strong image, and I do agree that the situation is horrific. That said, I like many elements of the piece, the only thing I don't like much is the crown of thorns..I think it puts emphasis on religion, which in a way takes away from the actual reality as well as alienating some of your viewers. Regardless, well done.

I included the crown of thorns for a number of reasons (i'm not a religious person BTW). The first was because the source image reminded me so much of commonly seen artistic interpretations of Christ on the cross. Secondly most people don't seem to realise that there is a Christian community Palestine, i hear so many narrow minded comments about Muslims being religiously intolerant. And thirdly i see it as the Palestinians are 'suffering for our sins' so to speak in the sense that they are suffering because people of the world are either indifferent or are afraid to speak out.

True! but i think it's only religious fanatics that perceive Jews as "god's chosen people". And to be honest these religious fanatics be they either Christian or Jewish usually tend to be zionists.

I had a christian teacher once who spoke of jews as godΒ΄s chosen people. It seems kind of odd to be a zionist if youΒ΄re not jewish though.

Intensely moving and saddening. It's horrific what human beings will do to each other. I keep re-opening this image to contemplate it further. Beautifully painted, too.
