Saw Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken last week. I love this film. The story is a bit trite, granted, but it has very pretty aesthetics, and I love Ruby Gillman as a character. This was my favorite scene in the movie, where Ruby has inadvertently transformed into her giant kraken form for the first time, and her mother is trying to comfort her. It's an emotional, heartwarming scene.

But what has ME emotional is how poorly this film has done at the box office. I so desperately wanted this film to do well. I want creative, original ideas to flourish, surpassing the creatively bankrupt remakes and sequels that have become the hallmark of a certain OTHER large media corporation. You know the one. And on a personal level, I want giant monster girls to get the mainstream recognition they deserve. But we live in an unjust world. I was so sad when I saw how disinterested (or simply unaware) the general public is in this movie, I knew I had to make a special tribute to it.
