SHORT STORY
Many awful happenings occurred in the vast lands of Tokotna these days, it seemed. Lurue had to put a gnarly end to an innocent whose only crime was being an unwilling vessel to an unruly host. Swift jaws would end that evil quickly... but with the evil, went the innocent. A long night of pining over this tremendous loss to the wild Tokota packs wounded Lurue's soul greatly. The day was turning from grey to a pleasant shade of blue. Saddened eyes of the seal Tokota scanned her surroundings as she woke from her zoned out slumber. A long and heavy sigh escaped from her lungs as she lifted her head, necking craning as she peered towards a curious duo of doe. Her piebald deer companion at her side offered a greeting snort as he layed down next to Lurue. The deer seemed at peace... offering a slow blinking gaze as they chewed their grass. It would appear that the duo claimed the turf they sat on, and they layed down with their legs folding neatly under their bellies swollen with green goods.
Lurue tilted her head in a curious way before sneezing a greeting at them as well, following suit of her dearest companion deer. The duo peered without fear and nodded their heads back. "A Tokota I do not fear. What a curious thing!" one of the does chimed, ears flicking forward. Lurue offered a gentle grin, "I am honored, miss. I present no threat as obvious in my stance," she replied before a frown reached her maw, "I have had a rough night with feelings. A loss has occurred. While they were not dear to me, they still mattered and I tried all I could to help them... but evil took over." The does faces warped into sadness and sympathy as they listened to Lurue's tale. "Our condolences are offered to you. May their soul find it's way to the great gods above." The does had finished each others sentences. Such interesting creatures- very connected. Lurue offered a thanking smile in return to their words, but she wished not speak further on the subject. She layed her head down, staring with slow blinks as the wind swished her fur. Her companion deer offered a gentle nuzzle and a comforting smile. He did not speak as there was nothing to say.
The morning passed with the small group going about their own resting activities. The does grazed merrily and Lurue lay wordless, making sense of all that has happened so far. She peered around before a smile rested gently on her face. Hardships would always find their way, to create obstacles, she thought. But without hardships, you cannot build. You cannot better yourself. Lurue thought about all the good that has graced her... including this moment now- predator and prey resting together in such peace and harmony. Few words had to be exchanged, and their company was worth the world to her at this moment. Lurue's eyes gradually shut as she fell into a peaceful slumber.
