Personality:
Sullivan is an extremely prideful unicorn and, while this causes him to often rub others the wrong way, his arrogance is as much a part of him as his horn and he bears it with ease.  Sullivan has a commanding presence (or perhaps demanding), due to both his large stature and personality.  Despite getting on in years, Sullivan has always made a point to keep himself physically fit; his favorite exercise is also his craft - jousting!  The silver unicorn is highly intelligent and, as such, needs to constantly have something to do or focus on to keep himself entertained.  There is little about his race that he can't sing praises about and it is his complete dedication to the preservation of unicorn purity that keeps this stallion ticking.    Endless hours are spent researching each and every scroll he can find that details the history of his race; his favorite manuscripts have even driven him to go as far as to create his own personal copy to review on the nights that he find himself the most restless.  Sullivan thinks - perhaps too highly - of blood.  Bloodline is everything to this stallion and those unicorns who dare to mix their precious blood with others are seen as disrespectful and disloyal to the very core of the unicorn.  There is little that Sullivan loves more than his unicorns (and, extension, himself - he is quite vain) but he has found an intense passion in the preservation of purity, as he calls it.  As such, he has often deemed it suitable to arrange marriages for close relatives of his so that he is met with as little dishonor as possible.  However, since this has caused him grief in excess (after all, it is because of an arranged marriage that he became an Untouchable), Sullivan is a bit disenchanted to the entire affair.  Instead, he has found solace in his sentence by burying himself into the books of old that he so loves, daring to find perhaps a hidden word amongst hundreds that reveals his true purpose in life.  Sully does not deal well with those who show a lack of common sense.  When in contact with these sorts, he can have a particularly sharp tongue and lack of patience - especially if they are without a horn.  Fellow unicorns are his soft spot; Sullivan loves nothing more than to bestow his knowledge of the unicorn race upon others of his kind, hoping that they too might recognize the importance of preserving a pristine bloodline.  His status as an Untouchable has wounded this stallions pride considerably and left him bitter but, ever a resourceful and cunning individual, Sullivan continues to plot how he can get himself back into the limelight and the social comforts that he once knew - even if it means crossing the line.

History:
Sullivan was born as the first child between his parents and nothing could have pleased Vangar the Silver more that his first child was a son.  Vangar and his stunningly beautiful bride, Ilianara, would go on to have a daughter named Vilara but for Vangar it was only his son that mattered.  Vangar and Ilianara, whose union was the result of an arranged marriage, was not loveless but the affection between the two was more for what they offered each other in riches and blood rather than true love.  Both were attractive individuals and both held the purity of their bloodline in high regard; from a very young age this concept was pounded into Sullivan's head and would go on to shape much of the stallion he became.  His parents, unicorns who preferred to keep to their own kind, discouraged any sort of relationships beyond what was necessary with any other species.  So it was that Sullivan was raised almost exclusively in the company of other unicorns, studying and learning all that he could about his race while simultaneously establishing himself as a prime specimen amongst his peers.

Having been a mere fourteen years old when the Ten Years war began, Sullivan was desperate to prove himself and joined his father in the war in whatever way was possible for such a young stallion.  These days were the hardest on the young Sullivan, etching memories of blood and gore into his memory.  It was here that he learned that those of the horn had an advantage on the battlefield and, despite the fact that he and his father fought alongside them against the enemy, that perhaps the horses of the world were as helpless as the unicorn King Valraldic claimed...

The end of the war saw the rebuilding of the Olde herd under King Vasska but Vangar's death, having been killed in one of the war's many bloody skirmishes, forced Sullivan to once again take on a task that he was perhaps not quite ready to bear.  So it was that Sullivan, at the young age of 24, became the head of the Vangar household and took on the nickname of his father - Sullivan Vangar, the Silver.  As the herds began to try and put themselves back together in the world that Vellamine's spell had created, Sullivan clung to anything that had some semblance of familiarity and found solace in reviewing his father's notes about their lineage.  It was within these records that Sullivan found the jotted names of suitors for his sister Vilara.  Sullivan took it upon himself to seek out the unicorn stallions - the ones that were still alive - and eventually found one by the name of Emmett.  Despite his inexperience in the matter, Sullivan was able to convince Emmett to marry his sister and, just before the passing of Vasska, was able to see them wed.  The pride that filled Sullivan at seeing his sister marry a unicorn stallion he himself chose for her filled him with the first true happiness he had experienced since before the war.  It was in this moment that he felt he carried on the memory of his father and he vowed that, going forth, he would be responsible for the marriages of his family members.  In fact, a few years later and he arranged a new marriage - that of his mother!

Slowly but surely, Sullivan began to get his life back together.  He continued to work for his herd as a Knight, his experience from the war aiding him although it was becoming clear that his services were less and less needed.  While the memories of the war still haunted him at night, he found that they were not as frequent.  His sister gave birth to a beautiful daughter - his niece Emara - in the Year 470 and King Veros' return from the first Vellamine Celebration gave Sullivan hope.  It was during this time that he began to actively seek out a marriage for himself.  Somewhat addicted to the search for a bride, he courted many unicorns and finally found success in arranging a marriage to the only daughter of a wealthy unicorn in the Winter of Year 473.

The establishment of the Votulus found Sullivan in a new role as an Archivist.  While it was less exciting than his work as a Knight Sullivan found that he thoroughly enjoyed it.  In 478 his bride gave birth to twins, an oddly colored son named Carnassial and a lovely daughter Eldoris.  However, there was little love between himself and his bride; so it was that he began to openly court another unicorn mare - a bardess - and eventually would announce her as a member of his harem.  She would bear him a daughter, Delmara, and a few years later Sullivan found it necessary to bring on the bardess's cousin into his harem as well when she bore him a son, Mortimer.  While the arrangement was rather unconventional and perhaps somewhat frowned upon, Sullivan defended his claims by pointing out the necessity to keep the unicorn blood pure - especially when new King Vasilio married the unicorn Morwenna.  Sullivan was personally disgusted by the arrangement and the twin sons they created together.

Years passed, Sullivan living through the mysterious death of Vasilio and the rise of Viktor as king.  His daughter, Eldoris, he set to marry a unicorn stallion that he had taken great pains to arrange.  Before the ceremony could be held, though, it was found that Eldoris was with child.  Stunned, Sullivan demanded to know the father and, much to his dismay, it was a common horse.  Disgusted, Sullivan immediately disowned Eldoris, banishing her from the Vangar family and refusing to acknowledge that he had a halfbreed grandson.  Still his family expanded, his son Carnassial was wed to a proper unicorn mare named Iseult, and Delmara gave him his first granddaughter with her husband Caldwell the same year that his wife Halvana passed.  All of his children - and his grandchild - he pushed to various studies, obsessing over their success to mask the loss of his wife by urging each of them not to follow the path of knowledge and tradition.  All was well, in Sullivan's eyes, and he enjoyed the luxuries of the family and wealth that he had worked so hard to achieve.

However, all that would change when it came time for Mortimer to be wed.

There were many mares that he had chosen for his son but, despite his efforts, Mortimer seemed disinterested in each or found flaws that made them no longer suitable.  Sullivan, frustrated at his youngest child, flew into a rage as he asked just who would be good enough for him.  To Sullivan's surprise, Mortimer immediately had an answer - Delphine.  The suggestion stopped Sullivan immediately in his tracks, all the wind taken swiftly out of his sails.  Shocked and disgusted, Sullivan dismissed Mortimer and told him not to speak of the idea again.  But Mortimer was insistent.  Now that he had dared to speak his dark thoughts out loud he could no longer hold them back.  Every day Mortimer badgered his father, listing out reason after reason why the marriage was suitable.  While at first Sullivan told his son no, Mortimer's persistence eventually paid off.  Sullivan agreed to his son's request and announced that Delphine would be wed to her very own uncle.  The backlash that he received was not surprising but, bull-headed, Sullivan reminded his daughter Delmara that he was the head of the family and that his word was to be followed.  He gave them the reasonings that Mortimer had convinced him with - the protection of the purity of their bloodline and the safety of Delphine.

But it was not to be.  Sullivan's very own daughter, Delmara, had snuck Delphine out in the middle of the night and, to his horror, Mortimer had killed her as punishment.  Sullivan, panicked, sent out patrols to search for Delphine under the guise that she had been kidnapped.  The rouse did not last long though, as his son Carnassial brought the truth to light.  Mortimer was tried and executed for the murder of Delmara and Sullivan, once the proud head of a well-to-do family, was sentenced to ever be an Untouchable for his actions.

Since his sentence, Sullivan has morphed into quite a bitter stallion.  He blames the entire incident on his son, Mortimer, but there is little solace that he finds in placing the blame elsewhere as even he knows it does nothing to better his situation.  In recent years, it has come to Sullivan's attention that the mare King Varren is set to take as his bride is none other than his long lost granddaughter, Delphine.  Displeased with his current lot in life, Sullivan has sensed an opportunity in the marriage to get his former grandeur back.  Only time will tell, though, if he will be successful...
