RESULTS: 1st place in the Working Class!  So excited!

DD Vogue at the 2013 Falcon Creek Equestrian Breed Showcase .

It was a mad scramble to get Vogue ready and loaded for the show. Having stumbled upon the show's brochure in a pile of to-be-discarded mail Leora nearly lost her head at the opportunity to show not only at such a varied show but at the chance to show so close to home. Del Mar, mere hours from where Holcomb Valley Acres was located, was practically a hop, skip, and a jump away compared to those other, pesky shows they had traveled to!

Of course, Jack wanted nothing to do with it. Despite the close proximity, he didn't want to push the newly-shipped mare so soon after her arrival. Besides, he was going out to look at some yearlings he had heard about from a friend in Texas. But Leora would not be told no. After much begging and pleading (and quite a bit of whining), Jack finally gave the young woman the okay. Just to shut her up.

So last minute calls and paperwork were completed and, with gusto, the new addition to HVA's herd and her rider now stood off to the side, waiting for the last of the pleasure and Western horses to finish their rounds. Vogue, a seasoned show mare, stood with ears pricked. The Friesian was calm but clearly alert, proof that she was still more than ready for what would potentially be her last showing season. Leora took the mare in a circle, keeping her mount warmed up. It was the first time Leora had traveled to a show without Jack around but things had gone smoothly thus far. Still, the nerves had begun to settle in the pit of her stomach. It was all she could do to keep herself from fidgeting too much. No need to get Vogue all tensed up.

But when their names were called and the music started, it appeared that the anxious blonde would have little effect on the graceful mare she rode upon. Vogue, showing her previous seasons as a show horse, struck out across the arena. Back and forth, to and fro, she moved in time with the music; elegant legs that knew where they needed to be burst into a high-legged trot when Leora had only just begun to think about cuing her. Vogue had their routine memorized. She only needed a rider to keep appearances.

So the blonde relaxed, letting the Friesian mare take her for a ride. They weren't competing anymore. They were dancing.

Originally, I had passed over this show due to shortage of time. But then, curious as I am, I looked at where the show was being held and AMG DEL MARRR. I've been there! -dies- Since it is so incredibly close to where my stables are supposed to be located, it would just be unrealistic if Leora didn't manhandle Jack into letting her go. Plus, it was a good excuse as any to get Vogue's show season started.

Once again, I feel that my humans sort of mar the artwork of the horse but I can only hope to improve that with time. I'm just glad I was able to finish it before the deadline -- it was certainly the closest I've ever come to not finishing! -wipes sweat from brow- I don't think I'll be able to get her into the conformation class but at least this one is finished. Now I get to start on all my fun Halloween-themed pieces!

Then you get to pat yourself on the back...doubly.  And I would never guess that you had to rush Leora - so job well done with that too!

It's hard, when schedules don't allow much time for art.  Interestingly, now that I am busy with work and studying for classes, I am so full of drawing ideas it's not even funny... go figure.  And I know how great it is to be able to produce something (finished).  I'm really glad you got this done in time for the comp and I can't wait to see how they do.

UGH THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EXPLAIN HOW MUCH I AGREE WTH YOU. It's always when I shouldn't be doing art that I want to do it!! D:

I know, like right now... but I've been good (studying this week when all I want to do is draw for so many HARPG costume contests).  If I can just get through the next two days of classes and studying, and exams, then maybe I can take a little break next week (after work of course, pffft).  Oh, but the ideas are flowing so well right now.... *pouty*

At least I have things like dA to provide me short breaks and look at everyone else's pretty artwork in the meantime.

Moar swirly feathers and tails I love the pose here - I swear, just seeing all your art of Vogue will convince me to get my Friesian XD.

And you might want to hit me for this, but I'm noticing the same thing here as with her reference where she has a beautiful arched, muscled neck and then her head seems sort of narrow in comparison. It could be a quirk in your artwork when drawing this breed, which is fine - I can just stop mentioning it - because its still beautifully drawn and her expression, so far, anyway, is lovely But I didnt' know if you wanted a heads up again, so its there ^^

This is odd, too, but I really like how you've drawn Leora's (it is her, right?) leg. The shape of the boot is really nice.

Anyway, hope you get this done in time! I'll cross my fingers for you

Hehehehe then all is falling according to my devious plan!  AND AMG TOTALLY DIDN'T NOTICE LOL.  What is funny is this is a 'blockier' head than the other. xDDD  I think I'm just so used to drawing lighter-type horses/Georgians that I'm falling back on it.  AND YES TIS LEORA.  I really should add more than just one character...  In RL she wouldn't have any time to herself because she has to take care of all these four-legged babies. xDDDD  :hugs:

Such an evil mastermind you are

Haha; that could well be it; you just get into a comfort zone or 'groove' when drawing similar things and it can be difficult to rethink things. I draw my Arabians so much that whenever I draw Romany, or even when I did Chibi Vogue for the Halloween thing, I start to draw these dainty little heads and then have to slap myself and fix them.

As for characters; lol, more do help a bit, and then you can have more fun inventing storylines for your humans (its good for people practice, too). I love designing characters, though, so if you ever want one but don't want to make one yourself, you're welcome to ask me

I might have to have you do that! I'm just really bad at drawing people so I avoid it haha.

You should see the people I was drawing just two years ago! Gah; horror. But sure! If you do want me to, just let me know - tell me male/female/discipline/race any other things you may want specifically and I can put something together
